Kinda softens the move to a build up??

35,000 is about 1/3 of our present forces?

Damn...even Powell sez Bush is nuts.....

Only 12% approves of the move...Bush is down in the polls and almost out for the count...

1. Becasue surge has oomph; and
Phallic imagery.

It also carries positive connotations of "That last little effort" that leads to victory.

Speaking specifically of 'reinforcements' on the other hand strongly suggests that the men already on the ground, are not enough. That they need bailing out. That they're losing.

14. That is what I thought
a power "Surge" makes it sound like they are taking a new and positive step, and also has the sexual connotation. "Increasing troop levels" sounds run-of-the-mill and like not much is different.

2. To be expected, if you think about it
Junior is unwilling to admit he made a mistake. This is all about him. He's hoping he can fix his catastrophe by throwing more money and lives at it. This is Stay the Course, Part II. He figures it's worth it if there's the slightest chance of exonerating himself. Typical behavior for The Decider.

17. The Arrogant Decider is an Abusive Prez who wants/demands HIS WAY
The guy is SICK and oughta be replaced asap

HJe is damaging himself deeper everyday he stays in office

Look at what he has done to the name of BUSH...

Now...everytime someone mentions the name...people will imagine the Alfred E Newman guy or the smirking Bush

He was and still is .....way over his head to be Prez.

He had an op to really do something good for the Nation....but he blew it early on...even before 9/11.

He shows major signs of being pathologically disturbed...abusive and narssisant/bully tendencies....he fucks up our America no end...

I an certain when he was a kid...he was a cry baby...always whining and sniffling...

3. Marketting
Using the word surge is far more palatible to people that saying throwing more human lives away or a last ditch desperation attempt to save a sinking ship. Its all about how you sell it.

5. Surge and Dirge Bush wants more dead people...
Edited on Tue Dec-19-06 06:33 AM by Hubert Flottz
He loves it when people die because of his bullshit! It makes him feel like a real king. "OFF WITH THEIR HEADS" was how Kings used to say "SURGE"! When the death rate gets up to Hitler's quota, King George will have the Big O... The GOPer's favorite Dirge is the death march for the Constitution of the US...that's the tune they are all playing with their heaping of power on King Bush the Unitary Whacker In Charge.

12. coordinated confusoid meme campaign
everyone here should use 'escalation' instead. The media is vastly irresponsible for allowing the hacks like rove to play their meme games unchallenged. The criminals in the white house and their friends and enablers in both parties are proposing to escalate the war and nobody ought to allow them to get away with trying to confuse the issue by playing word games.

15. You're right.. it IS an escalation... "surge" my ass
The word games are more sophisticated than they were during Vietnam, but no less deadly.

19. Custer knowingly and intentionally attacked Sitting Bull at the Little Big Horn
Edited on Tue Dec-19-06 12:30 PM by opihimoimoi
with 650 troops and a few Indian scouts....he attacks a numerically superior force(approx 2500 to 3500 warriors)....and they had superior weapons too...repeaters while Custers guys only had single shot rifles...

The arrogant Custer ends up losing his life and about 250 men because he did not lister to his orders before going off to battle.

Superiors had ordered him NOT to SPLIT up the troops...which he later did...into 3 groups no less

His scouts warned him of superior numbers and should delay attacking....that he did not listen is a mystery...

As History tells us...he surged/zerged/attacked a force thinking he had the better weapons and should win....yeah...right....

Now, fast forward to Bush...is this his last stand...?

With only 11% of the nation backing his escalation...he plows on....this boy, he just don't listen does he?

The poor guy...digs his hole deeper and deeper.... unable to stop...
