FAQ
Where will I see Independent
World Television?
The answer varies by country and community.
On satellite. We’re presently negotiating satellite carriage in each of our broadcast countries. In the United States, our alliance with LinkTV will bring IWTnews to 25 million U.S. homes through DirectTV and EchoStar.
On digital cable. We're negotiating with digital cable carriers to make our programming available through our own digital channel and Video on Demand.
Public broadcasters & public access stations. Varying by community, public broadcasters will carry individual IWTnews programs.
Online. All IWTnews programming will be webcast and free for viewing. We will also be rolling out short video news items and mini documentaries over the course of the next year on our web site. We plan to make use of new Bit Torrent applications to make online viewing faster, easier, and provide more context, choice and involvement.
What countries will
you broadcast in?
Countries with large English-speaking populations, with an early focus on Canada, the United States, and India. We've also started development in the U.K., Australia, Ireland and South Africa. Our Founding Committee includes members from around the world.
Are you primarily
web or TV?
We’re a marriage of both. Independent World Television will combine the participation and organizing power of the web, with the popular appeal and broad reach of television. Our online efforts will drive audiences to find us on TV, while our TV broadcasts encourage viewers to participate through the website.
What do you mean
by “citizen journalism?” How big a role will it play?
Citizen journalism or “participatory journalism” is about “empowering ordinary citizens -- including traditionally marginalized members of society -- to engage in activities that were previously the domain of professional reporters” (Wikipedia). Independent World Television will feature both professional and citizen journalism. Our flagship news program, IWTnews Nightly, will feature our professional correspondents and the world’s best professional print and online reporters. Our citizen journalism programming will feature the work of citizen reporters from around the world vetted by our professional editorial board to ensure high journalistic standards are met.
