Charlotte Observer prints anonymous comment comparing terrorist to Dems.
Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 10:28 AM by blm
This must be a national campaign by GOP operatives planting this crap all over the media.

Quote:
Al-Zawahri calls President Bush a "butcher" and a "failure." Is he a Democrat?

Papers don't print every comment put on their voicemail. WHY did they CHOOSE to put this one up?
Disgusting - This was a CHOICE made by an EDITOR, fer chrissakes.

Newsroom number is 704-358-5040.

2. The Observer is trying desperately to generate readers
I guess they think that they can do that by going red.

Kevin Siers, their cartoonist, chose a "winner" for a caption contest. The cartoon showed Charlotte's mayor wrapped in a Nascar checkered flag and * wrapped in an American flag.

The winning caption?

"The trick is to pick a flag that Democrats actually like."

Fuck.

3. My jerkoff coworker was spouting yesterday that he was
really scared because Dems are a danger to America. I did really good at controlling myself. I put on my version of BS protectors - my headphones - and cranked up the tunes.

Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 11:01 AM by blm
I think only print gets it.

But, please give them a piece of your mind. Other Observer customers can verify it was in today's paper.

8. No doubt your coworker
hears this shit on hate radio. I'm not listening to Rush Limpballs, Hannity, Savage, or the rest of the nutcases. But people like your coworker have it drummed into their heads 24/7.

It's only a matter of time, IMO, before the mobs with torches and pitchforks come for the Dems. That's where all this is headed.

There was a guy named John Titor (a literary device IMO), who posted on the internet awhile back. He claimed to have come back from the future to tell us about the civil war we engaged in around the present time. I guess you don't have to be a time traveler to make that prediction. :(

21. See, this is why they are winning
We are too afraid to speak up when they start their BS. I'm not blaming you, personally, but we have to push back.

I am not afraid anymore. I stand up and say, "I'm a Dem. Are you saying that I'm a threat to America?"

Then I slap them with the facts - bam! Right in the face and in front of as many folks as possible.

We CANNOT let them say that kind of crap. We have to stand up and push back.

6. Republicans are such COWARDS.
I was thinking about this yesterday. Democrats know that we must rely on ourselves for protection, that there are certain common-sense measures to be taken, but they do not involve suppression of freedom nor mockery of large groups of people. The best protection is unity, not division.

Republicans choose instead to look to someone else to protect them, as if bush is some sort of mommy figure and has the *cough* wisdom to decide what is best for them. Republicans are very good at strutting around and claiming their willingness to shoot Democrats and liberals for being "traitors," yet for some reason they seem clueless as to how to use their own common sense judgment to protect themselves against the threat of terrorism. Republicans have completely abdicated their responsibility by thrusting the most important duty they have, to protect their families, onto the incompetent shoulders of bush.

Republicans are COWARDS and not capable of assuming responsibility for their own safety.

It's as simple as that.

22. The Observer BUZZ column
gets me hopping mad in the mornings. I can hardly stand to read it any more, it is always so snide and slanted against Dems. Maybe the editorial board is picking a representative sample/ratio, but if so, in a way that makes it worse. NC is still pretty red.

On the flip side, they are a Knight-Ridder newspaper and usually print the articles that actually manage to question king george once in a while.

23. Yes, but Charlotte went blue bigtime in 2004. The editorial page doesn't
reflect it very much.

But, this is especially egregious in my view, since it's becoming an apparent media tactic to equate terrorists in these videos with Democrats. I want to hit them back hard NOW before this thing gets any more steam.

The KnightRidder national desk is just the tops, but some of their papers editorial pages really bite.

29. Yeah - and he's already started campaigning against my Clark, too.
He's resurging that ole meme he had in 2004: that Clark is like Ashley Wilkes.

We on the Clark board have figured that they're scared of losing their Faux News base to Clark, so they've decided to make him seem less masculine, particularly to Southerners and mid-Westerners who equate military men to strong leadership; therefore, Butt Boil and Insannnity and all the other myna's are out there trying to make Clark sound 'wimpish.' Of course, anyone with an iota of sense knows that Clark could kick the asses of both pResident AWOL and all his brothers-in-no-arms with one hand tied behind his back, but their goal is to meme that he's "soft" because he's not a war monger.

My point, however, is that it's already starting: this swiftboating of any potential 2008 candidate who has the nerve to THINK and present REAL ideas over empty rhetoric. We may yell that we should be focused on 2006, but we really need to think more long-term about how to deal with these asswipes.

28. Call The Buzz and say:
"Observer reader equates Democrats to terrorists. Is he a fascist Republican who doesn't understand that to dissent is patriotic? Our founding fathers thought so."

And leave it at that.
