How the fundamentalists 'celebrate' Hanukkah....
AOL has an entrance screen story up about Sasha Cohen - here's a snippet of it:

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (Dec. 14) - Olympic figure skater Sasha Cohen was "stunned" to learn that a U.S. high school choir had been ordered to stop singing Christmas carols at a holiday show because she is half Jewish, her mother said on Thursday.

A city employee, accompanied by a police officer, approached the Rubidoux High School Madrigals at the Riverside Outdoor Ice Skating Rink just as they launched into "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" and requested that the troupe stop singing, the Riverside Press-Enterprise reported Thursday.

There was a link for AOL members to talk about this story, and it takes you to a message board that is just FILLED with half-witted garbage. Here's a little sample:

It is an absolute shame what is happening to our country. One nation under GOD! We live in America and our founded by christianity. If you truly are offended by it, then leave and go back to your native country. This is all getting ridiculous. Merry CHRISTmas to all!

Of course, this assumes that Jews aren't 'real' Americans and should go back to their 'native' country - even if they were born here.

America was founded on Christian principles, and more than 90% of Americans say they identify with some branch of Christianity. We need to stand up and fight, let our enemies turn their cheek. Had I been in charge of the choir, I would have refused to stop the Christmas carols, and challenged the atheist aggressor to take whatever action they thought they could. There is no room for weak, turn the other cheek Christians in this war to defend our rights.

There's loads of "War on Christmas" lunacy here. About three quarters are outraged over this faux issue and the other quarter are blaming Cohen because she's half-Jewish.. All of them blame liberals, usually in violent and/or profane ways.

The lack of logic, grammar and spelling I've just waded through is making my head spin.

3. they really aren't
I think some only read the first paragraph and assumed that Cohen was somehow offended by the Christmas carol. Of course, that's not the case at all.

5. Is it a city skating rink?
The other day I pointed to incidents like this to remind people that the 'war on christmas' didn't rise out of nothing. It rose out of incidents like this, where nobody is offended - yet something as silly as a song causes an uproar. I was informed that this sort of thing obviously crosses the separation of church and state and that public property should not be used for any sort of religiosity. There ARE liberals who will agree with this city employee, and it's a bit hypocritical to feign innocence when one of these incidents happen and then turn around and insist on complete separation of church and state at the same time.

6. My answer on this cesspool
And while you all belly ache over a false issue

people are actually dying in a REAL WAR.

By the way, how's the propaganda going for y'all?

This country was NOT founded on Christian principles and most of our Founding Fathers WERE DEISTS. If you even knew any history you'd realize that Christmas was NOT celebrated in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, since it was considered a PAGAN celebration. You'd also know that the House and the Senate was issued the Jefferson Bible all the way to 1901 and met on Christmas day until the early part of the 20th century. But history, you don't know squat.

You may want to do some readying.

Anyhow, while you fight over this idiocy, remember an American soldier will die tonight, FOR REAL, in a REAL WAR. But don't pay attention tot THAT WAR, which is real... if you did some among you may actually realize you have become tools in false war to keep you distracted from REAL ISSUES.

7. Especially since the skater had NOT asked the choir
to stop singing, and said later she would never have done such a thing.

9. Well.... Christianity was founded on Jewish principles, so....
>>>America was founded on Christian principles, and more than 90% of Americans say they identify with some branch of Christianity.>>>>

... by that logic, shouldn't we all be lighting menorahs instead of worshiping the solstice bush, er, I mean "Christmas tree'"?

10. No Pagan Symbols!
I have told screaming fundies they better not put up a Christmas tree because it's PAGAN.
Also told them NO Easter Eggs. This is after they screamed at me for being a heathen.

11. and a Happy THURSday and FRIday to you!
If the fact that "Christ" is in Christmas, which happens just once a year, means we all have to be Christians, what does it mean when every week we honor the Moon, Thor, Freia, Saturn, and the Sun? (I forget who/what Tuesday and Wednesday are named for. :dunce: )

Or is it that it's just a name for a holiday that has both religious (baby Jesus, Star of Bethlehem, etc.) and secular (trees, wreaths, presents, goodwill toward men, etc.) components?

Ow, teh stupid!
