It could be a brain tumor
acute episodes when a person loses speech can indicate a brain tumor. Hope it is not that.

3. That was my first thought
My grandmother had diabetes and she would stammer and nearly faint when her blood sugar dropped.

Generally similar symptoms. He may require some major surgery that is followed by alot of rehabilitation, including speech, occupational, and physical therapy, depending on the location of the affected vessel and how it is managed.

14. I'd bet on
Transient Ischemic Accident TIA (small clot, symptoms subside quickly) or low blood sugar. Because he responded so quickly my bet is on TIA...
