5. Edwards is doing well in the early polls
In Iowa a Des Moines Register poll has him up almost 20-points among past caucus goers and now this.

8. Interesting that it's called a "new" WSJ poll if it's from October.

7. I've read he has a seriously great framework of people "on the ground"
and that he's basically been tending to building that since 2004.

11. Hillary leads Edwards as choice of Democrats - Hill 37%, Obama 18%, Edwards 14% Kerry 11%
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16189893/

Regarding the next presidency, however, the poll suggests that the 2008 field is open — but it's led by a few familiar politicians. U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., leads the Democratic pack as the choice of 37 percent of Democrats. U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., follows her at 18 percent. Next is former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards at 14 percent, and 2004 Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry at 11 percent.

25. Simple name recognition in a
celebrity obsessed society where most people are not paying attention to politics until the primary season really gets rolling. Remember that during the last Democratic presidential primary, Liberman's "Joementum" was fueled by mere name recognition. He polled well between the 2000 and 2004 elections because people remembered his name (and soem associated it with Al Gore's anme, which also bumped his positives).

Obama is getting the rock star treatment from the MSM, so people know his name. Hillary is often front page news, and she shares a name (and shared 8 years in the WH) with a popular former president.

When things really get rolling, though, name recognition won't be the only thing driving poll numbers. Then we can talk abotu what the polls mean.

12. Is this the link?
that mentions:

In some head-to-head match ups, McCain leads Clinton by four points (47 to 43 percent) and Obama by five points (43 percent to 38 percent). But — in an interesting twist — the Arizona senator trails Edwards by two points (43 percent to 41 percent).

It's towards the end of the article:

14. Excuse me. Is this the McCain appreciation thread?
I love the way he only uses "the troops" when he needs political fodder.

The best strategy he's come up with for his presidential campaign is, "Send more!"

What an evil, little shell of a man.

15. Take McCain Down
I think that the Democrats need to attack McCain they need to cut him off at the knees make sure the American public know that he has sold out to the Bush regime (i.e. posters of THAT hug etc) and the Democrats need to show that he is not a compassionate conserative I would use the clip of Bush from Moore's movie "fool me once fool me again", to associate McCain with Bush America needs to be told that McCain is just another GOP candidate who will promise a change of tone but deliver for the base. Take him out there is no other way.
Also show that he has NO self respect repeat the smears Bush used against him in 2000, show that McCain is not fit to be President, prove that he has rolled over and played dead for Bush (i.e. the photo of them eating cake as New Orleans drowned)
I can see no other way let 2008 be the time when the GOP attack machine does not sway the American public (i.e. Dukakis and Kerry) and fight fire with fire.

17. Agreed 100%, McCain is the biggest threat in '08
Every potential candidate that we are talking about is electable against all of the other losers that the GOP is putting up. McCain will be the ONLY formidable opponent and I pray that the GOP shoots themselves in the foot and kills him in the primary.

16. I've said this all along, McCain is the only thing standing in the way of a Dem victory in '08
All of this arguing about electibility is nonsense if we're not talking about a hypothetical McCain matchup. Senator Kerry and Senator Clinton may have high negatives but both of them outpoll other GOP hopefuls like Mittens, Brownback, and Gingrich. Edwards, Gore, Obama, and others without as high negatives beat them by double digits.

I firmly believe that the GOP establishment suck up their bitterness toward McCain and endorse him because they know that they have no other choice.

22. I agree
The Bush team really did drag McCain through the mud. Admired him in the past, but just sad to watch him suck up now in order to get the GOP behind him. Just shows what a person will do for a power grab.

20. McCain is the man to beat
Agreed that is why the Dems need to paint McCain as a dangerous GOP candidate show the pics of him with Bush, make him the successor to Bush. Those photos of him cuddling W and eating cake are a good start. Then the Dems need to show how he voted where he agrees with W. Lets face it the media will not show him in a negative light it is up to the Dem campaign. The GOP WILL nominate him if they think he is their only hope. The Democrats need to define him.
Rodham-Clinton - She is not going to win a Presidential election
Kerry- I thought he was a great candidate but he will be smeared for his foolish comments on Iraq so he cannot win.
Gore is my pick, Gore can win.

23. Really good news. How about Edwards/Clark or Edwards/Obama.
I'm tired of the old gang. Want a new face for the Dems. Even though Edwards was the VP candidate, I don't think he's "old news" the way Hillary is. I don't think Hillary can beat McCain, she's really just McCain light.

26. It's two years away!
This is like Christmas advertising in January.

Why can't we have equal playing field, no cost, thirty days of debates one month before elections, and then vote?

Jeez... I don't think I can tolerate two years of this shit.

I now return you to a totally legitimate and innocent thread. I apologize if I offend anyone.

about this at "Politics!" But WHO got all the attention??? Here we have Edwards actually polling ahead of Hillary & Obama, and all we heard was Hillary & Obama!!

I do like Obama, but think Edwards is getting robbed and overlooked far too much!! I've thought about this a lot, and I really don't think I can "do" Hillary in any way, even IF she gets the nomination!! Please Hillary don't make me sit one out.... just DON'T run! PLEASE, DON'T RUN!!
