Nigeria considers same-sex marriage ban
LAGOS, Nigeria - Lawmakers in Nigeria are debating a bill that would ban same-sex marriage and any form of association among gays, even sharing a meal at a restaurant.

Few in Nigeria's deeply closeted gay community have publicly opposed the legislation, which proposes penalties of up to five years in prison and is widely expected to pass.

Engaging in homosexual acts is already illegal in Nigeria, with those convicted facing jail terms in the mainly Christian south and execution in the mainly Muslim north.

"This meeting, right here, would be illegal," said activist Bisi Alimi, stabbing the air with a French fry for emphasis as he sat at a table with three gay friends and a reporter.

3. Isn't it heartwarming to see a warring people come together to persecute a minority?
Never mind that the act is redundant with their current raftload of hateful laws, it's just plain nice to see these ultra-religious power-hungry hate-fueled killers agree that no matter how much they may hate one-another, there's someone they can all agree to hate even more, like gays and beauty pageant organizers.
:sarcasm: "the more you know"

4. How about less persecution of gays, and more persecuting of conmen?

7. Really! This is a country that needs to consider the question of
fraud a little more than it needs to worry about its individuals' sex lives!

How could they enforce something so ridiculous as the restaurant prohibition? LOL.

5. This is why I wish EVERY country had separation of church and state
The world would be a much better and more peaceful place! Notice how the "Christian" areas want to put gay people in jail, and the "Muslim" areas want to execute them. If radical fundamentalist versions of religion were not intertwined with the government, the people in these countries would be better off. This is why it's so important to support church-state separation in America and fight against laws that use religion to take away human rights.
