Repubs will tell Bush : "...Won't get fooled again.."
Bush and Rove guaranteed them they would win the Senate and keep the House before the last election. Those remaining in office have not forgotten. They will not be fooled again. They will not go along with a continuation of this war in Iraq if it might affect their re-election chances in 2008. Mr Bush does not have to run - they do. He will not get unanimous support for his "New Way Forward". Because they have been burned once and they cannot forget. Mr Bush's Party will desert him. He will be left alone - whimpering to his legacy...

1. 2008 is going to be a very bad year for republicans....
It's ironic that THEIR best hope is impeachment too-- the sooner they get Bush out of office the sooner they can start rebuilding their party's reputation.

3. They may not see it that way.
When I talk to Republicans these days, they don't want impeachment. They don't want to lose Bush at all, ever, in fact. They just seem to feel that Iraq's spiraling horror was just an accident in a brilliantly planned attempt at taking over the region and securing "our" interests.

7. I suppose I should have qualified my response....
I meant the republican leadership in Congress-- the ones who are trying so hard to do damage control. The faithful rank and file will stay deluded until things affect them personally, and the war against Iraq mostly doesn't. Still, I think the republican leadership will have a tough time distancing themselves from the Bush/Cheney albatross in 2008 if he's still around to spread responsibility for his "legacy."

8. Yep, I understood completely.
However, my point is that their precious base will remain loyal. They'll always have that 30% who will scream for their representatives and senators to remain loyal to Bush's twisted vision. I highly doubt that many of the elected Repubs are concerned about the disapproval of the Democratic and indie groundlings.

6. In the 'brillaint' style of *
"Fool me once, ... shame ... shame on you; fool me can't get fooled again!"; So the elected repugs are going to apply *'s apt adage to him. Wow they must have become so brilliant after the election!!!

9. They're going to do more than just desert him.
I'm willing to bet that before the 4th of july his own party will be calling for his impeachment. Wait until after the new congress is sworn in and you'll see a major attitude change. He's TOAST!

10. A couple of Republicans are starting to make noises now.
Let's hope that that attitude snowballs.
