I am PISSED: Rumsfeld ruins the life of the Abu Ghraib whistleblower!!!
On "60 minutes" last night there was a helluva sad segment on the guy (Garby) who courageously blew the whistle on the slime that tortured prisoners at Abu Ghraib. The poor guy had to sleep with a loaded pistol in the barracks out of fear of retribution from those who did the torturing or were sympathetic to it. Rumsfeld then goes and publically announces him by name. Now Garby and his wife cannot even go back to his home town of Cumberland, Maryland because the fucking morons that live there think he's a traitor!! 60 minutes interviewed the head of the VFW, that sniveling fascist asshole, and the bastard also thinks Garby was a traitor!!

Rumsfeld you are one nasty son of a lying bastard!! OH fuck was I pissed. This outing was out of malice.

I am a veteran and know how goddamn hard it is to call the actions of others in your midst into question. I got my ass in a sling while stationed at GTMO years ago for reporting some shit done by a superior officer. I was basically told to shut the fuck up, harrassed and "put in a box" (reassigned). I saw a shipmate go to jail in a "Fall Guy" operation involving stolen property. Then I had some bible thumping NCO put me on report for something I didnt' do, and it was proven that I didnt'do it but the punishment was still carried out.

This enlisted man is a hero. The shit that happened to him cannot be undone.

Who was that Veteran's of Foreign Wars puke who thought Darby was a traitor? Iwant to get in his face. I want that son-of-bitch to feel the pain and suffering Garby is going through.

I want to e-mail him and unload some serious anger. I'd like to see him blasted with hate emails.

On a positive note. It was good to see he got recognition from Ted Kennedy and Co.

1. I met Sam Provance a few weeks ago
IIRC, Sam got the CD of pictures out of Iraq.

"Joe Darby, Jim Massey and Sam Provance are three military men who spoke out last year against illegality and immorality in the Defense Department, particularly relating to atrocities conducted by American soldiers and contractors in Iraq"

from

http://www.lewrockwell.com/kwiatkowski/kwiatkowski112.html

Joe Darby, Jim Massey and Sam Provance are patriots.

(your avatar) to do it hee, hee, and the information.

After I cool down I'm going to sit down and compose a letter to one Colin Englebach and probably pass it on to the head honcho of the VFW after I find out who he is. I want to make Englebach one uncomfortable son-of you know what.

PS. I encourage all of us to tell Englebach what we think of him.

Also I vote for Darby as DU's hero of the year.

4. How about writing to show support for this man
Since I don't think we can write him personally (he was wanting to keep his location secret for obvious reasons) I was thinking I would write to 60 minutes to express my support:

60m@cbsnews.com

It would be great if there was an outpouring of support-- they do read some of the letters they get on the program. I'm sure there's going to be the rightwingers writing in droves to condemn him.

The interview is also on the website:

13. What you say is a serious matter. I've been researching the
role of the American Legion in using baseball bats to break strikes and quell civil dissent back in the 20's. As one author said: "they lead the field".

The Centralia Massacre of IWW members in 1919 was an American Legion operation.

9. Garby was just the face they put on the operation. He didn't leak the photos.
Garby was never accused of sharing the photos and materials with the press. He passed them up the chain of command. Right according to the book. No charges or finding of fault.

The photos were actually released by the Military Intelligence Division (MID) brass.

statements were his "personal views" and not that of the VFW. Can you believe this shit? Damage control the following day.

They must be getting some serious unfriendly fire to get this out so quick.

Englebach needs to be shitcanned ASAP!!

Look at what Englebach said about Darby and "the townspeople", as if he speaks for them:

...In the broadcast story, entitled “Exposing the Truth of Abu Ghraib,” Engelbach told 60 Minutes what townspeople were calling Army Reservist Joseph Darby, whose disclosure led to the investigation and punishment of fellow unit members who were abusing prisoners at Iraq’s Abu Ghraib Prison.

"He was a rat. He was a traitor. He let his unit down. He let his fellow soldiers down and the U.S. military. Basically he was no good," Engelbach said the townspeople were calling Darby. Asked by the reporter if he agreed with those statements, Engelbach said, "I agree that his actions that he did were no good and borderline traitor....

I'm working on a letter to Englebach. I want to kick his ASS!
If I do nothing else I want that bastard kicked out of the VFW.

childish, and and undoubted designed to possibly get him killed for starting the process which brought the world's attention to Bush's use of torture against young (and old) men/women from other countries.

If the video isn't working for you, for some reason (I had trouble with it, dunno why) you can still read the article:
Exposing The Truth Of Abu Ghraib
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/12/07/60minutes/main2238188.shtml

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The VFW thug was unbelievably obnoxious. Here's what he told Anderson Cooper, on page #3 of the article, which appears to be the program shown Sunday:
But he didn't get support back home in Cumberland, Md., a military town that felt Darby had betrayed his fellow soldiers.
The commander of the local VFW post, Colin Engelbach, told 60 Minutes what people were calling Darby.
"He was a rat. He was a traitor. He let his unit down. He let his fellow soldiers down and the U.S. military. Basically he was no good," Engelbach says.
Asked if he agrees with that, Engelbach says, "I agree that his actions that he did were no good and borderline traitor, yes."
"What he says in his defense is 'Look. I’m an MP. And this is something which was illegal,'" Cooper remarks.
"Right. But do you put the enemy above your buddies? I wouldn’t," Engelbach replies.
I've been researching the area since I'm planning on a genealogical research trip there.
This is a place where the only "culture" seems to be the area around Deep Creek Lake, and they think Applebee's is high cuisine. Every inn and bed and breakfast I checked out is 2 star or so. Cheesy decor (to be expected from country bumpkins who have never seen real style), and according to something I read, there are more churches per capita in that area of the state than any other (possibly even the country?). There is nothing there, there.
Can't say I'm excited about visiting the area, but I am eager to dig up some more details for my book. If I drive by the VFW, I'll make sure to ask for Mr. Engelbach and give him everyone's regards. A nice loogie right between the eyes should do the trick! :D
Twelve prohibited personnel practices, including reprisal for whistleblowing, are defined by law at § 2302(b) of title 5 of the United States Code (U.S.C.). Generally stated, § 2302(b) provides that a federal employee authorized to take, direct others to take, recommend or approve any personnel action may not:
(8) engage in reprisal for whistleblowing – i.e., take, fail to take, or threaten to take or fail to take a personnel action with respect to any employee or applicant because of any disclosure of information by the employee or applicant that he or she reasonably believes evidences a violation of a law, rule or regulation; gross mismanagement; gross waste of funds; an abuse of authority; or a substantial and specific danger to public health or safety (if such disclosure is not barred by law and such information is not specifically required by Executive Order to be kept secret in the interest of national defense or the conduct of foreign affairs – if so restricted by law or Executive Order, the disclosure is only protected if made to the Special Counsel, the Inspector General, or comparable agency official);
34. My letter to Englebach
To Colin Englebach,
Commander, Henry Hart VFW Post 4511:
I saw you on "60 minutes" Sunday night and the loathsome comments you made about 1st Specialist Joseph Garby. You called him a "borderline traitor" and concurred with others in your area who called him a rat and a traitor for giving authorities information about the torturing of prisoners at Abu Ghraib. You see nothing wrong with the torture of prisoners. One wonders if you would hold the same view if you were a prisoner.
I am a veteran. When I see people like you I get the urge to puke in disgust knowing that you are somehow representing "the best and the bravest" of America. You are the opposite. You are a disgrace to the uniform and a threat to the Constitution which you are sworn to uphold.
You would have faired well as a guard at Dachau. In case you don't know about that is, it wouldn't surprise me if you didn't, it is time for you to get a little history lesson. Dachau was a WWII German concentration camp where Jewish prisoners were tortured, starved, then gassed or murdered by other means. Unfortunately there weren't enough, if any, people like Joseph Darby around to blow the whistle. The rest is history--6 million Jews perished.
Englebach, you must have missed something in your upbringing, or maybe there is just a big hole in your soul that needs to be filled with other peoples pain. Last night you, in your mind, did to the Iraqi prisoners what the Nazis did to the Jews. You took that first crucial step: you subhumanized the "enemy". If people with a mindset like yours go unchecked it isn't long before a repetition of Dachau results. You and your ilk are a greater threat to democracy than any Iraqi, or VietCong, or any other "enemy" concocted by the US Captain's of Conciousness to promote their corporate agenda.
I am real curious to know where you served in a foreign war and also:
WHAT IN THE HELL IS YOUR GUNG-HO ASS DOING ALL CLEAN SHAVEN AND PROPER STATESIDE RUNNING YOUR MOUTH ABOUT PATRIOTISM WHEN THERE IS A WAR ON??
You're to slick Englebach. I hope you weren't a rear eschelon wannabee, or did a touch and go at the Baghdad airport and called it "in country". Englebach I am having a hard time wrapping my head around the idea that you ever served honorably in a war zone, when I consider how dishonorably you acted on Sunday night.
I have contacted the VFW National Headquarters and filed a complaint and inquire about what qualifies someone to be a member of VFW much less a Commander of a VFW post.
A curious veteran.
36. Me 3, Happydreams!
It took me less than a minute at the end of the 60-Minutes segment on Sgt Darby's unfortunate situation to reach boiling; I called VFW Post 1411 in Cumberland, Maryland, and gave whoever answered the phone an 'earful.' I used phrases including "low life bastards in Cumberland" and "post commander is a traitor to honor and integrity."
I'm a Vietnam veteran and retired military. I hold the Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters among other awards. I am outraged at Darby's mistreatment by his so-called comrades-in-arms.
I am not now nor will I ever be a member of the VFW, thanks in part to the commander of one VFW post in Cumberland Maryland who I count among the low-lifes there.
Darby is a hero, a testament to honor and integrity.
