Mob Severely Beats Motorist Who Honked Horn
Mob Severely Beats Motorist Who Honked Horn

UPDATED: 2:24 pm EST December 28, 2005

MILWAUKEE -- At least 15 young men and boys dragged a 50-year-old man out of his car after he honked at them to move out of the street and then kicked and punched him, Milwaukee police said.

Samuel McClain was in critical condition Tuesday night at Froedtert Hospital with severe head injuries, but he was awake and able to talk.

"He might not be able to see or walk because of these people, these kids," McClain's daughter, Shanika Johnson, said.

Police said McClain was driving alone at about 10:30 p.m. Monday when he honked at a group of young people in the middle of the road on the city's north side.

and run over the people surrounding them in this way. Perhaps that's what this guy should have done, especially given the string of beatings that have happened in that area according to the article.

That leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but what in God's name is one to do?

6. I came close to doing that once
I saw a guy get out of a VW bug and with chains in hand, he walked toward a parked car. A guy got out of the car and I don't know if he saw the chains or what, but he was no match for them and the guy with the chains looked crazy as hell. After watching the swinging and ducking and dodging for a bit, I gunned the engine of my '72 Cadillac and headed right for the guy swinging the chains. Damned pacifist juxtaposition again! I didn't care at that point what the guy in the car may or may not have done, all I knew is I was going to be dammed if I was going to let someone chain another to death outside of my kid's elementary school (happened as I was waiting to pick them up) just in time for a bunch of little kids to see it. Long story short, it freaked them both out and they got out of there but quick. I never intended to hit anyone, I just hoped the sight of all that metal coming toward them would break things up. Mission accomplished!

7. In certain neighborhoods you don't want to do anything that could be
construed as antagonistic to street blockers. Just sit politely and wait for it to end or do a u turn and go some other way. I worked with a woman who lived in such an area and she said sometimes she would have to sit quietly in her car for up to 15 minutes and just wait for whatever activity that was going on in the street to end.

10. Oh, I'm not sure I agree with that.
They know they aren't supposed to be out in the damned street - and they are breaking the law intentionally. I would be real tempted to phone the cops and demand action and if they even started to approach me, I'm afraid I'd run them over. . .and NO, I don't feel like I'd be responsible. These kids nearly killed this man - they aren't entitled to special treatment when they threaten the safety of others with impunity. I hope every damned one of them is identified and rounded up and charged with assault with attempt to murder.

8. I was nearly in a situation like this once.
In my small home town of about 900 people. Kids would not get out of the way, and I honked at them. They all surrounded my truck.

I got out and asked them who was first, and they backed down. I can look intimidating when I need to.

I laughed, got back in my truck, and threw rocks all over them. :D
