Dixie Chicks grammy nominations!
The Dixie Chicks may have been "Not Ready to Make Nice," but the Recording Academy was nice to the country-pop trio, giving them nominations in the top three categories for the 49th annual Grammy Awards.

The Chicks were nominated for album of the year for their CD "Taking the Long Way," as well as record of the year and song of the year (a songwriter's award) for their single "Not Ready to Make Nice."

The group suffered a boycott from some country music radio stations in the aftermath of lead singer Natalie Maines' 2003 comments about President George W. Bush. The new album is more rock-oriented and was mostly ignored by country outlets. However, it did receive a Grammy nomination for best country album.

5. If they win
this will be big! Lets not forget, it was only 3 years ago they branded and tarred for questioning our leader for going into war. Now, look where we are. My how much has changed since then!

I completely agree with you about this song! One of the best on an album full of great stuff. Personal fav is #2 Easy Silence - I think it's a pretty love song :)

10. I Wonder If The ACM's Will Ignore Them
The ACM's are held in Vegas May 2007. I guess nominations will be a couple of months prior. I can't imagine they'll be able to ignore them completely, but I wonder if they'll refuse to vote them as winners of anything they do get nominated for.

Actually, I doubt the Chicks care much what the country music academy does, especially if they win some Grammy's in February.

12. Lovely
I'm not a fan of country music but I'm a fan of what the Dixie Chick's singer said. I don't understand the mentality of all the fans who boycotted them. The reason why they bought the Dixie Chicks' cds in the first place is because they liked the music. I, myself, could care less about the political views of artists that I listen to. I'm a big KISS fan but I think Gene Simmons is an asshole. I buy their cds because I like the music. I hope the Dixie Chicks win every category they're in just for the fact that it will piss off all the pinheads.

14. We really should thank the pukes for geting pissed at them...
Their phenomenal growth as musicians and writers from the early country stuff to their latest would probably have happened eventually, but we got it a lot sooner because of their exile from the land of twang.

The ladies are amazingly gifted in their musicianship, writing and vocalizing.

15. At their Dallas show they entered the stage as "Hail to Chief" played
HAH! Wasn't able to go see them but the local repuke rag had an article about their show:

http://www.guidelive.com/sharedcontent/dws/ent/stories/120606glchicks.34d35a5.html

Forget fancy lighting, bells and whistles, even the obligatory costume changes. The Dixie Chicks were strictly no-nonsense during their two-hour concert Tuesday night at American Airlines Center, the final stop on the trio's high-profile Accidents & Accusations Tour.

The crowd roared its approval. It's obvious the venue was filled with supporters. They even cheered during a trailer for the Chicks' theatrical documentary, Shut Up & Sing, which played over the video screen during the break, after opener Pete Yorn finished his 30-minute set.

These women are full of feisty sarcasm. As they walked onstage, "Hail to the Chief" blared from the speakers. Nothing was said about it. Nothing needed to be said.

Yet hearing "Travelin' Soldier," the first of three encore tunes, done with just bandmates Emily Robison on dobro and Martie Maguire on fiddle while Ms. Maines strummed an acoustic guitar revealed the artistic heart. It's a melancholy song cushioned by lush three-part harmony and a plaintive lead vocal performance.
No embellishment necessary. Ditto for the Dixie Chicks.

Poster we saw, and pointed out by Natalie, at the NYC concert this past summer.

Way to go, Chicks!

Poke fun if you like, but I'm psyched that Madonna got three noms.

and goes to show how much its writers know about music. Remember that condescending and completely off-base article entitled "An open letter to the Dixie Chicks: Here are eight things you might consider if you want '07 to be better than your last coupla years" someone posted here a few days ago? (http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/entertainment/16130036.htm.) Nice try, friend, but the Dixie Chicks are doing just fine. Turns out politics and music mix just fine, thank you very much. To get nominated for Album of the Year over Bob Dylan's critically acclaimed new album is quite the achievement.
