I have a solution for those who say we can't quit in Iraq
Apparently, there are some Patriotic Americans who believe we are admitting defeat, and the only thing we need to do to win is to refuse to quit.

I propose that the U.S. Government start a program to allow any American over the age of 18 to train and serve in the Iraqi Army. This will be a "No Cuts" team-- everyone passes, nobody washes out, everyone serves.

I call this program, The Iraqi Foreign Legion (IFL).

Now, I know some College Republicans, for example, say that the only thing keeping them out of serving in the armed forces is that it requires a four-year commitment.

So, to address this issue, I propose a very loose minimum commitment to the IFL. You would be required to have eight weeks of bootcamp (in Iraq) followed by only one month of Active Duty. After that month, you are free to return home (at your own expense).

Afterward, you would only be required to serve during your Summer Vacation and Spring Break for four years. For each tour of duty, the US Government would pay to send you to Iraq. The volunteer (as always) is responsible for arranging their own transportation home.

3. Hey, they'll network over there, for the few good jobs that are left in the U.S.

for when they return.

I'm afraid of a Draft, but there is a sort of attractive aspect of Rangel's recent proposal for that: a service option for something non-combat related, like the "Peace Corps". Of course, anything in the Military basically supports Death and Destruction, but if you had this peace-corps sort of thing, and don't allow people to move back and forth between combat and non-combat service, maybe we could help some of those we hurt, and rebuild some of what we destroyed.
