O'Reilly: U.S. may have to "level cities like Tehran"
On the December 5 edition of his nationally syndicated radio show, Bill O'Reilly asserted that "we may have to" "level cities like Tehran, kill hundreds of thousands of people," which, he explained, the United States has "already done in Germany and Japan." O'Reilly then argued that such a move would be necessary, for example, "f Iran takes over Iraq and then fosters a revolution inside Saudi Arabia ... and gets control of all the oil and says we're not selling to the USA, we are going to level that country, because you ... need gasoline to live."

5. Because "I" need gasoline to live?
Maybe "you" need gasoline to live Bill. Maybe you are willing to kill hundreds of thousands of people so you can cruise around in your limo or SUV. As far as I am concerned I don't need "gasoline" so badly that I am willing to kill for it. Then again, I have a conscience, unlike some adulterous sexual harassers I know.

60. Not to defend Loofah Boy here, but we do need gasoline to live
Our economy is critically dependent on fossil fuels. If the tap was turned off tomorrow, we would have a depression that would make 1929 look like a so-so day on Wall Street.

Having said that, I'm pretty sure that Loofa Boy has his head up his ass. Assuming for a minute that Iran took over Iraq, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia (thanks, there, Georgie. Heckuvajob) and refused to sell oil to us, that would have to mean that they would be selling the oil to other countries, like China and the EU. Which would mean that those countries would be buying less oil from countries like Libya, Russia, Mexico, Canada, and Venezuela. So, then the market would self-correct, moving oil from different countries to other countries, just like before. The crude that the US used would just be more South American and Russian, while China, India, and the EU would be more Middle Eastern.

The big threat is that they would simply stop selling oil altogether. That would devestate their economy, but the people might be willing to take the pain because it would hurt the Great Satan (us). But I'm sure that a total and complete ban on all foodstuffs to the new Iranian Empire would bring them around in a short while. Perhaps some Roundup sprayed on their farmland, killing all plant matter, would assist them in coming to this decision.

80. Does he even take himself seriously? He's just in it for the money and attention it gets him.
Otherwise, I think he couldn't care less. Just like Limpballs and Hannity. Problem is, those he is wanting to kill for their oil, probably do take him seriously and that is the real reason they hate us, for the attitude that we think we are entitled to their oil no matter what we have too do to get it, like kill them all for instance.

8. What a wretched, evil man he is
It is truly amazing that people go for this stuff. I've heard people say that we need to level Iraq, just blow the place up. Yes, in their tiny evil little minds, that would solve the "problem" just fine...

This is what our lovely mass-brainwashing media has produced, people with no moral compass whatsoever. And sadly, the same people are presented as -- and think of themselves as -- the only moral force in our country.

I don't know what to think, I truly do not, when people can engage in this type of thinking. Even less, when people like O'Reilly who have access to airwaves and millions of listeners, can be allowed to spew this hateful rhetoric without ever being called on it.

The FCC really should do something about hate speech on the public airwaves. Instead they spasm over a 1-second nipple shot, and about the occasional "damn" uttered on network TV, while completely ignoring the rotten stench that emanates from blowhards like O'Reilly et al.

46. At the bottom of all of this lies the fact that they REALLY believe
that because we NEED the oil, that we have the
GAWD GIVEN RIGHT to TAKE it from them.

We NEED it.

We CAN take it.

So we WILL take it.

MIGHT makes right.

What would YOU do without O-I-L, little girl (chirp, chirp, chirp, like a little bird...)

The crazies in charge REALLY believe we have the RIGHT, if we
have the POWER, and that we'd better secure it now, before THEY get nuclear.

They don't see it makes them worse than Hitler and Stalin put together.

56. are you saying that you don't?
That it would not bother either you or this country if gas suddenly went to $6 or $10 a gallon?

I can guess who would not be bothered that much. Bill O'Reilly for one. Suppose he now spends $5000 a year on gasoline. If he suddenly has to spend $15,000 or $25,000 for the same amount of gas, that's not gonna make a dent in his millions.

Not gonna bother me either directly since I bike almost everywhere, but then wouldn't utility bills go way up too, and the price of everything else that includes transportation would go way up. But we could still get oil from Russia, Venezuela and Mexico.

64. I'm saying this country has an EXTREMELY dysfunctional relationship with petroleum.
Edited on Fri Dec-08-06 07:52 PM by impeachdubya
Would it suck if gas went to $10 a gallon? Yeah, although probably not as much for me as it would for these idiots who drive massively outsized SUVs and pickup trucks for no other reason than to feel manly.

The question isn't really "what would happen IF gas got to be $10 a gallon", but rather "When will it?" I mean, look, I understand that:

A) We live on a sphere, right- (I really think many of our problems start with the fact that some people seemingly don't) and that sphere is a ball with a finite volume.

B) Oil is a substance which we extract out of the ground.

So, since we live on a finite sphere, and oil comes out of the ground, even if the Earth was made entirely of oil (a ludicrous concept) even then, sooner or later, the shit would run out.

Therefore, unlike many in this country, I don't consider it my God-Given 'Merkin right to an infinite supply of cheap (and I hate to break it to ya, but $3 a gallon is cheap) gas. If the American People want energy that is never going to run out, they should damn well stop driving big honkin' penis substitutes that run on gas and start supporting research into renewable energy.

The bottom line with this whole thing, in this whole thread is, even if the people in the Middle East did cut off the oil spigot, it's their land and their natural resource. We're not "entitled" to it any more than they are entitled to the water from the Colorado river or the wood from our old-growth forests.

And to argue that $10 a gallon gas is enough of an "outrage" to justify killing innocent people... well, I know you and I have had our disagreements in the past, but I can't imagine that's what you're trying to say here.

59. Killing people, including frightened children with brown skin is the correct & fair thing to do...
Edited on Fri Dec-08-06 05:10 PM by GreenTea
As long as we have oil for us white people we have a right to kill and steal from those uncivilized dark people for their oil. That's fact, read your history books, (and your bible as well, written for us whities).

Why not, we have a better military than the brown people over there do, they should have spent more of their money on their military and buying high-tech weapons from America to protect their oil...We would of given them good deals, maybe even traded some jets for oil...But now, it belongs to us. Might Makes Right!

You understand, it's a matter of principle, our white corporations use our dark skinned people to work in our military so we be tougher, and we can steal more oil for them to gouge the white people back home for record profits... See the system indeed works!

Yes, O'Reilly is right on this one, that's our gasoline over there and we whitie's want it and need it bad, ever last drop....

Shit, get real, there's a god damn profit to be made... anyway, those damn people don't feel pain like we white people do when we can't get to work because there's no stinkin gasoline...they simply walk or ride a bike to their rug factories...we need that damn oil, and it's ours and we's going to get it...Do YOU get it yet?

And it's a good thing the new democratic congress won't get in the way, and will let the war proceed and spend our tax dollars to keep the war going, that's important.

Monkeyboy Bush also knows there's still plenty of money to be made, and can bankrupt social security & all those other programs designed by the progressives to help the lazy of our country to boot.

Now, I don't like Bush, in fact I despise him...But, he's correct on this one...we need the oil we know that much, just as we need to get rid of all the unnecessary social programs the rich never use, it's for our own good...to protect us from the terrorist!

62. we don't need the oil ...
or maybe I should say, yes we need it today but not tomorrow. But we didn't need it yesterday. Blah blah blah.

Many already know that we could have eliminated oil years ago with all the new technology out there that men have died for. Yes they died for inventing it. You already know WHY I am sure, so I don't need to elaborate. Besides It seems like the right thing to NOT kill others for oil. If we get into a position to where we need that oil then it's our own fault for being gullible and not taking a stand early on. I'd starve to death before I would drop a bomb on women and children. This "Bush" problem goes much deeper than what gets reported. The fact is that our entire American culture is a "dependent" one that dupes us into relying on the greedy corporations to survive. The "real" reality is that we can take care of ourselves independently more than we're taught to. A good example is a doctor making us believe we need to spend our money on pills when our cure costs $1 from the grocery store. If we knew THAT truth ole doc wouldn't be getting his incentives from the drug companies. THAT'S our culture.

65. yep, Faux is ginning up the upcoming
War With Iran Bringing Freedom And Democracy To The Iranian People.

And then two days later, Faux "News" throws out the following red herring story:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x2644479

Freedom is on the march! We must nuke Iran to bring democracy to Iran! :nuke:

And while we're on the subject, what's going on with the US Navy's Eisenhower Strike Force, which was deployed to the Persian Gulf just before the election? It's been REAL quiet on this lately...

68. Sad truth is this gasbag has a large audience that believes his BS.
I'm sad, very sad to say that my cousin - a Stanford graduate with an MBA, law degree and practices as a CPA hangs on his every word. A lifelong Repug, he has become my 'project' for the foreseeable future. I simply provide him with facts from credible sources to refute most of Billo's talking points or rants.

77. Hmmmm, lets go back a few years....
take back the illegal invasion of Iraq and we would be able to PAY for the oil we use.

But we can't go back can we?

Bill is wrong. We cannot live THE WAY WE CURRENTLY DO without gasoline. We CAN, live in a more ethical and responsible way without using as much of it. In this case, the options are to make a choice to live differently now or wait until you have no choice. In the long run, when we are forced to rethink our way of living, people like Mr. O'Reilly will not fair so well as those who preferred to change their way of living before it became necessary.

A silver lining to every cloud.
