A Chicago area serial killer died in prison: Ralph Andrews
Edited on Wed Dec-06-06 06:54 PM by undeterred
He murdered my good friend's younger sister in August 1977 at the age of 16, but he was associated with the disappearance of many other women before and after that. There is no death penalty in Illinois. This was an evil person who used his years on earth causing fear and pain and misery to immeasurable numbers of people. He died in January- I don't know why they waited to announce it till now.

December 5, 2006 - A man who may have committed more murders than John Wayne Gacy will never be brought to justice for most of them. The ABC7 I-Team has learned suspected serial killer Ralph Andrews died in prison.

Over the years, authorities in Illinois have called Ralph Andrews a real-life Hannibal Lector. But even that seems to be an understatement for a man who proudly boasted that he assaulted, slaughtered and eviscerated as many as 40 girls and women in Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan. Andrews was serving a life sentence at Stateville for two of the murders when he died of natural causes.

Where Ralph Andrews went, evil seemed to follow. His FBI rap sheet began in 1961, stretched over 30 years and spanned the city, suburbs and mid-section of the country.

Andrews was imprisoned in 1994 after killing a 44-year-old woman in a Chicago park torturing her with a tent pole and stun gun, and stabbing her almost three dozen times. While at Stateville doing a life sentence for that crime, the Cook County cold case squad obtained a court order to secretly bug Andrews' cell, and on that tape, Andrews confessed to the murder of 16-year-old Susan Clark.

3. He was a sociopath and highly good at killing and getting away with it
When they finally arrested him in the early 90s he was married with 2 children and working as a school bus driver - blended in to the community perfectly. But in prison he bragged and tried to "mentor" other prisoners in the art of killing and getting away with it. He knew he'd never get out, but others would. I don't know if he was abused or born that way, but its amazing all that he got away with.

No conscience whatsoever.

9. But aren't there lots of children that grow up under those types of
conditions and never harm anyone? Some even rebel and become artists and writers and comedians, etc.

10. Somewhere I heard he was raised by a single mother
in the Chicago area, and that he often murdered when he was in the vicinity of her home. Some serial killers are killing the person they hate over and over again.

11. oh sure, blame anybody but the actual killer
People who do horrible things will always try to put the blame somewhere else. Is it inconceivable that a serial killer is capable of lying?

12. This person had absolutely no conscience
He was unperturbed in the courtroom as a victims mother was giving the 'victim impact' statement. There may be people who behave this way because of abuse, but I think that there are others who are defective from birth- some brain/personality defect makes it impossible to experience remorse or guilt even though they certainly know on a rational level that society thinks what they are doing is illegal or wrong. So its impossible to try to make sense of their behavior.

I guess we tend to project that a person who does horrible things must have had horrible things done to them, but its not always true- some people really have no conscience, and its pretty scary to realize that they walk among us.

4. Why do the taxpayers have to pay for his heart surgery?
He gets free health care, and we have 45 million Americans who don't have health care? How is that fair?

His death should be celebrated.

He had a paper route, and a 9-year old girl who lived on it is unaccounted for to this day.

14. It took so long to catch up with him because he seemed normal.
And he even escaped from prison to keep killing.
