Jerry Springer ends his radio show - not a RIPPLE! OUCH!
http://apnews.myway.com//article/20061206/D8LRDMA81.html

CINCINNATI (AP) - Jerry Springer has ended his syndicated radio show after nearly two years, saying he's too busy with other projects that developed after his stint on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars."

Springer made no mention in the opening minutes Tuesday that the show would be his last, instead launching into a critique of what he called President Bush's "runaway presidency that has so destabilized the Middle East while at the same time endangering America."

Later, he joked with his "Team Springer" sidekicks, saying he hoped they found jobs, and told one caller he might consider running for office someday.

Although it was the last of his live shows, reruns will be aired the rest of the week while he gets ready for his daughter's wedding Saturday, Springer said.

2. he's a shit-head...
I made the mistake of turning on his show the other day... the trashy drama of the day involved a girl who said that her sister's boyfriend had raped her when she was 12... and Jerry smirked and mocked her and the situation all the way through... the girl was crying, and whatever had happened in her past (not funny and criminal) had clearly fucked her up. He is a SHIT... making money off of other people's misery. Yes, some are frauds, but there is more tragedy there than his circus format acknowledges. Why ruin the audiences fun?

3. Smirked, mocked? I admit I've only seen the show a time or two but I never
saw any smirking or mocking on Springer's end at all. In fact, I thought he afforded some of his guests more dignity than their behavior seemed to merit....

I do concur that it's a circus, though.

4. let's just say

the disclosure of her rape as a child merited a differnet response than the one she got. The accused child-rapist was offstage (next guest). Springer was more concerned with maintaining the festive, bloodsport atmosphere on the stage, amused by the spectacle-- my take, of course. It grossed me out, really.

5. Well, I did not see that show, and I am not a regular viewer. But one thing that strikes me about
the program on the odd occasion when I've passed it while surfing is the way that Springer treats his guests. I've never seen smirking or mocking, and when he asks a question, it tends to be the "Everyman" sort of question: Why did you do that? What were you thinking? Didn't you think it was UNUSUAL for you to (fill in the blank)? Didn't you think (name of hapless victim) would (be angry/find out/take revenge/fill in the reaction)? For all the excesses of the show, which seem to be a function of the enthusiasm of the audience and the desire of the guests to achieve some sort of revenge or vindication while obtaining 15 famous minutes, I never have seen him on the smirking and mocking end, that's all...that sort of thing comes from the audience and the guests who appear in "opposition" to the featured player.

But as I said, I am not a regular viewer. The guy just strikes me as a more gentle soul than that. His commentary on that Dancing program and his deep affection and care for his legally blind and deaf daughter (the one he wanted to learn to dance for so he wouldn't humiliate her at her wedding) makes that sort of cruel behavior, well, surprising.

6. hmmm.. I didn't know that about his softer side.
Well, not to betray what a fossil I am, but I used to watch his show years back (a little B&W tv at my mom's house) and he was very serious back then, dealing with serious issues, important social problems, etc. I liked him back then.

BTW, your image is hilarious! Did you make it? Mind if I download it?

8. It's not mine--I swiped it from some website and uploaded it to photobucket!
It's not mine--but the maker was smart enough to put his or her website embedded in the image, so it's a free ad for them, I imagine they don't mind others grabbing it--free advertising, and all that.
