Are there Perma-Puppies & Perma-Teens in our future?
Edited on Tue Dec-05-06 08:37 PM by Philosoraptor
Michael Crichton, the author of Jurassic park, has written another novel about genetics gone all wrong titled "Next". It postulates what genetic engineering might hold for our immediate future.

The concept of perma puppies is mentioned in a discussion of the book, and the mixing of human and animal genes, and all sorts of other brave new notions, some good, some frightening. Imagine a dog that is always a puppy, and lives to be 75 years old, like it's owner.

Hell, if they can do that with a dog, they'll do it with a human and make perma teens, who wouldn't want to be a perma teen? Although being a perma teen wouldn't be your decision, but your parent's. What if your parents decided that you'd be a perma-child?

I've always wanted a tiny full grown giraffe or elephant roaming my back yard.

1. There was a short story on the subject.
Appeared in the journal nature a few months ago.

A rich couple gives this treatment to their two daughters. One eight years old, one a teenager. They adore the younger girl. Treat the teenager like shit, she runs away, and they regret ever having her.

That one page short story, I'm going to have to assume, is far superior than any Chrichton novel. Feh.

2. I drove my parents nearly insane wanting a baby elephant....
It was one of those obsessions that no amount of reasoning could diminish. But, I'm convinced it got them to get me a puppy about three years earlier than intended...
