Looking to the future: The argument two years from now?
Who lost Iraq? Bush and some Republicans wanted to "stay the course" with a plan to succeed. The Democrats wanted to withdraw our troops and admit failure. Now it is lost. Who is to blame? John McCain wanted to add more troops. President Bush wanted to train enough Iraqis to do the job. He was kept from doing his job by the Democrats. Will that be the argument two years from now? The Republicans are looking ahead, in my opinion.

consider the present, and you can guarantee that blaming the Democrats for their comprehensive failure in the war's conception, execution and ttermination will never ever fly at any time in the future.

Except in the eyes of the Clarkistas and Neocons, it's very conception was their biggest failure, and there was no way in which their subsequent actions could rectify the mistake and have them emerge even relatively unscathed.

2. that's why Warner is "strongly suggesting" * include Dems in the decision on way forward
in Iraq....

He sounds so bi-partisan and statesmanlike, but he's really trying to get some massive CYA started for the repukes in 2008....

4. The current game plan
At least from what we are hearing from the insiders is to shift the goal and expectations. There is still a question as to whether George is a true believer or not so he may block this shift (if he even has the power to do so). But after they shift the expectations and goals their next job is going to be convincing the public that the Dems/Left are the one's costing us any victory. They are going to have to place it on our heads if they want to survive.
