Seymour Hersh has a new report about how the Bush Team plan to prevent Congress from interfering with any actions Bush wants to take against Iran, even if this action violates legislation passed by Democrats to prevent funding of regime change in Iran. Does anyone remember Iran-Contra scandal?

A month before the midterms, Cheney told participants of a national-security discussion that if the Democrats won control of Congress, it would not prevent the Bush Team from proceeding to take action against Iran:

8. Gates on Iran war
He just said in his confirmation hearing that Bush did not have authority to go into war against Iran based on the act passed back in '02 to go into Iraq. It's on record; it's under oath; that's solid.

12. So was the law banning the US from funding the Contras.
Talk means nothing with these people. It's a Straussian principle that governing requires lying.

That.Is.Solid.

You only have to go under oath if you're a Democrat talking about your sex life.

6. I wonder if all that hasn't changed since then. Have you noticed
Cheney has been MIA since Rummy was fired? That of course is closely connected to a much bigger win for Dems on Nov. 7th. I actually opened this thread while saying to myself...don't tell me the Devil finally surfaced!"

Nobody is happy or smiling at eh WH these days, and I thinkthey're realizing that many of the things they wanted to do just aren't going to happen.

10. Yeah, that's what I was thinking, too. Time to put impeachment BACK on
the table, Nancy! --if that's how he's going to play it.

Have things changed? Not sure. I have a feeling that Rumsfeld's exit was not due to the midterm elections, but rather to Rumsfeld legal problems that might be looming (Plamegate? 9/11? The REAL reasons for torture and rendition? Some dirty nuke business?--could be a number of things). On the other hand, he is still Sec of Defense. What if Bush (Cheney) rips up his resignation letter and calls him back in? What if the Bush Cartel can't get its replacement boy approved? I wouldn't dismiss Cheney's statements all that easily (as out of date, or out of touch with reality). If Cheney does throw the gauntlet down, will this new Democratic Congress represent us--the American people--at long last, or will it continue to represent the war profiteers and the corporate rulers? It's an open question, I think. And you could make a pretty good case that the new Congress has been carefully crafted and shaped, by the corporate rulers' "trade secret" vote counting software, to lose that fight.

On the positive side, it appears that some kind of split has developed AMONG the corporate rulers--the Iraq War has become "bad for business" maybe? (--as happened with the Vietnam War). Or, they think it will be easier to stomp all over Mexican peasants, or the Andean democracies (Bolivia, Eduador, Venezuela), to get THEIR oil, than it is in the fractitious (and well-armed) Middle East? (--just contemplate, for a moment, this reported Bush Cartel purchase of 100,000 acres in Paraguay--where our tax dollars have funded a state-of-the-art military air base--as a possible launching pad for a corporate resource war in the Andes, calling upon the Colombian military, which the Bushites have lavished $600 million on (also our tax dollars) this year alone. Are the corporate rulers tired of Iraq?). Anyway, I was struck by those pedophile scandals unleashed on the Bushites, by the war profiteering corporate news monopolies, four weeks before the midterms. Very strange. Some rumble going on. All is not well in BushWorld. I think we can't yet see behind the orchestrated front. (China maybe stepping in, re Iran? I dunno.) (They hold a lot of the paper on our debt, and they get a lot of their oil from Iran. So, OUR corporate rulers may have to pay them deference--and call off the Bush dogs?).
