"The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill" is a Beatles song from double-disc album The Beatles (also known as "The White Album"). This song mocks the actions of a young American named Richard A. Cooke III, who was visiting his mother, Nancy Cooke de Herrera, at the ashram of the Maharishi in Rishikesh at the same time as The Beatles visit there. <1> Richard really did go on a tiger hunt with his mother and he actually did shoot and kill a tiger.
The song opens with a flamenco guitar solo (actually created by a rarely used preset button on a Mellotron keyboard, here functioning as somewhat of a primitive sampler), followed by the chorus, sung by all four Beatles, a group of children, Ringo's then-wife Maureen, and Yoko Ono (providing the only female lead vocal on a Beatles recording, for a single line). John Lennon, who wrote the song, is the primary lead singer.
Since the song's release, the term "Bungalow Bill" has gone on to become general British slang for a "dimwit".........The song was recorded at Abbey Road on 8th October 1968 and was completed including all overdubbs in this one session. The Beatles also started and completed the Lennon composed 'I'm So Tired' during the same recording session.
As well as her one-line vocal Yoko Ono also added the synthesized trombone sounding instrument heard in the choruses which was played on a mellotron.
