Doonesbury Straw Poll Uses Word 'Clusterfuck' As Possible Description Of Iraq
Edited on Sun Dec-03-06 12:23 AM by Hissyspit
That's the REAL issue. Not whether it's a civil war or not, but whether it's a clusterfuck. No, wait. The real issue is whether or not it is a civil war clusterfuck or a non-civil war clusterfuck. No, wait...

Debate continues over the appropriate nomenclature with which to characterize the situation in Iraq. President Bush is holding firm to "sectarian violence", while Colin Powell and Matt Lauer have moved on to "civil war". We turn to our Town Hall visitors for the latest word on the subject.

Is there a civil war in Iraq?

A - No. As Tony Snow has explained, you'd need to have two clearly defined and opposing groups vying not only for power but for territory. Moreover, there are no grey and blue uniforms, so... Okay, okay, it's a civil war, but I'm not ready to call it that.

B - Yes. Death squads with power tools. A hundred bodies a day. A shambles of a government. Mass dislocation as people flee to the sectarian enclaves. The good news? It could be option C.

C -Worse. It's a failed state, spiraling into total chaos. Think Mad Max -- a terrifying clusterfuck, with the country atomizing into tiny, nasty warring factions.

War stance

still support invasion used to support invasion never supported invasion

1. So far, the "clusterfuck" option is most popular with...
...people who never supported invading Iraq, 68% of which call it that in this online poll.

3. Tonight on "Weekend Update," Amy Poehler reported...
...the "new phase in Iraq," and said its name rhymes with "musterpluck" (or somesuch).

I've been calling it an occupation, not a war, but I may have to change my terminology now.
