Dean was right about the war.
Dean was right about the capture of Saddam would not mean a more secure Iraq.
Dean was right about pulling out the troops from Iraq.
Dean was right about the 50 state strategy.

In a fair world, Dean/Feingold would be the perfect ticket to lead America.

36. I hadn't read down yet when I formed a thought in my head
I had for quite a time been a Gore/Feingold fan but Feingold made it fairly clear he isn't going there so I sort of let that one slip away but when I was reading this, I thought of Gore/Dean and then I saw your post. Great minds think alike.

But, damn, there always has to be a but........ I think Dean is doing us a world of good right where he is. I'm sure I wan't Gore running but not as sure about Dean. I mean I'm totally sure that Dean is wonderful but he's uber-wonderful right where he is.

...became chairman.

Stll, a girl can dream, right? :)

11. second that...
I was a Deaniac from quite early on, and I'd love to see him as president, but the media would love for him to be a candidate just as much, because they've shown they just love to pick him apart for every little thing. That whole "Dean Scream" thing showed that perfectly; how many of the pundits and "journalists" who were calling him nuts for that scream (at a political rally!) then went to their kids' football games and screamed even louder and more insanely?

Plus, like you say, he's doing perfectly well as the DNC chair. He failed as a candidate (not surprising considering the entire media was out to get him from the beginning) but then gave us the entire damn Congress as DNC chair with his strategy--he didn't just luck out and was chair at the right time; we owe him a lot for this victory--so it's clear that his place is at the helm of the DNC.

I personally would love a Gore-Feingold ticket, though the Gore part of that is less based on political reality than on the wish to have a sort-of "restoration": to have the rightful winner of the 2000 election follow the disasters caused by the guy who stole his presidency in what was essentially a bloodless coup and bring the country back to where it was and is supposed to be. It would be so cool as well to have Bush's eight years of Republican insanity and idiocy bookended by two Dems who did and will do great things for the economy, the environment, and to help restore America's reputation in the world.

4. I agree completely about a Dean/Feingold ticket. But it won't happen, of course.
The media killed Dean in early 2004 because he opposed the monopolization of the TV/newsprint industry. They'd do it again. This doesn't mean that Dean and Feingold wouldn't be the best to lead our beleaguered nation; they would. Keep up the optimism. We can hope.

...into power.

They would have to kick him out.

But YES....

A Dean/Feingold or

Gore/Dean Ticket

makes me wanna do HANDSPRINGS and CARTWHEELS all

I know a LOT of people who would WORK THEIR

I've like Howard Dean for about 15 years, since I spent time in Vermont when my wife was the head of the UVM college Dems in the early 90s. However, I don't think he's the best our party can offer as a presidential nominee.

Sorry to jump in on the conversation so late, but McCain/Jeffords? A McCain ticket ALONE will be hard enough to trump. But against McCain/Jeffords?

We could run a Jesus/Moses ticket, with a promised cabinet seat for Mohammed, and still get beat.

25. AMEN
Seems pretty clear to me.

He was also right about how to re-energize the Democratic party by embracing the internet and those political activists and participants who use the internet. Of course it might be the case that Dean simply benefited from what others saw and capitalized on. Either way he gave the efforts his support, and in doing so ushered in an entirely new era in US and Democratic politics.

35. He's just barely started rebuilding the party
When I worked on the Kucinich campaign in 2003-2004, I learned why (despite the fact that Green supporters were always asking him why he just didn't jump ship) Kucinich has stayed a Democrat. I also learned what the long-term effect of disgruntled independents and lefties of various stripes staying out of electoral politics for so long has been. Namely, we just don't have the organizational base and institutional clout to get anywhere with a candidate as far out in front as Kucinich elected, and exactly the same reasoning applies to Dean as well. Dean's leadership as DNC chair is just the beginning of the rebuilding that we need to do before anyone like him will ever have the powerful interlinked networks of local progressive activists and officeholders that is absolutely essential to override the money, the power, and the MSM message domination that currently elects only docile servants of the corporate elite to higher office.

Our party and our country need Dean right where he is. Also, I think he takes his committment to the party building 50 state strategy very seriously and would not duck out of that obligation as some would have him do.
