Looks like the Keith Ellison Bible flap is going to blow up into a major story
Edited on Fri Dec-01-06 04:40 PM by Quixote1818
How about the stupid AOL headline:

Newly Elected Muslim Lawmaker Under Fire
Decision to Take Oath on Koran Sparks Controversy

AOL has it on their front page and the way they present it is only going to provoke people. They obviously want this to be a big story to get the news programs ratings and so they are trying to rile everyone up. Based on the results of the AOL internet poll, the rednecks are out in force on this one. YUCK!!!! Thomas Jefferson, where are you to set these bigots straight?

Be sure to vote in the poll.

2. Yes, how odd that there was any reporting at all
when the fact is NO ONE IS SWORN IN ON ANY BOOK...

Prager made this up!

How is this not a part on the war against bringing one's faith into politics like the right wants us to?

anti-war and pro-single payer health care.

The powers that be cannot leave such a person unattacked.

I bet most of those idiots who voted "yes" wouldn't be able to pass the Bible tests that I had to take for Lutheran confirmation in eighth and ninth grade.

4. I think the whole swearing of the oath on a religious book
is stupid. The message it sends is: your religion is more important than your constituents. That's a scary thought considering some of the wacko religious sects in the U.S.

6. Nah. This is going nowhere. It is too easy to shoot down. Even the wingnuts will realise that.
No one except for a few wingnuts give a shit what book, if any, a congressman uses at his swearing in. Most don't use anything at all. They stand up, hold their right hand up, left hand at the side, and repeat the oath after the Speaker. Those who choose to have an official photo taken of them swearing in on a Bible do so at another time. This is a bullshit story. It is going nowhere.

9. The sad thing is that I think most Americans are on Prager's side
These are not all wing nuts but a lot of average ignorant people. The same 55% who believe in the creation theory.

10. Then they will have to bring in the others.....
who refused to use the new testament bible, like Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and a woman from CA who wanted to use the Torah.

Fair is fair.

11. I don't care what this man swears on or at.
Can he do the job he was elected to do?
That is what I care about.

Just like I don't care if Kerry can tell a joke or not.

15. Course. It's a story about NOTHING, which will get the red meat merkins mad.
And it's another 10-20 minutes that the media doesn't have to talk about the massive clusterfucks that are the Iraq War and the Bush Presidency.

Here's the answer, in one simple sentence;

HAVE EVERYONE SWEAR ON THE CONSTITUTION.

How's that? Problem solved.
