Iraqi Shiite with Iran ties to visit Bush

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Abdul Aziz al-Hakim, a top Iraqi Shiite leader with close ties to Iran, will travel soon to Washington to meet with President Bush, the White House confirmed Friday.

Al-Hakim leads the powerful Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq, a rival group to the political movement led by firebrand Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr.

U.S. National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe said the meeting was set for Monday.

"President Bush looks forward to an exchange of views and a discussion of important issues facing Iraq today," Johndroe said.

2. This must be considered a slap in the face to the Saudis
They just summoned Cheney to the carpet to tell him that if the US leaves Iraq, they will go in to help the Sunnis. Now it looks like we are taking sides with the Shiites.

Damn, this is confusing!

4. "...a group with close ties to Iran"
Hmm, let's see: SCIRI was trained in Iran, equipped in Iran, are funded by Iran -- I suppose that could be characterized as 'close ties' to Iran. Might be more accurate to call them a 'wing of the Iranian military in Iraq', though. In fact, most of their leadership were living in Iran before the US invasion.

5. Poor little Smirkie
Everything he does turns to shit. Now he has to meet with this guy to try to undermine Sadr, which ain't gonna work. By January, he'll be BEGGING the Dems to defund the war.
