1. that explains the "if we lose the ballot, we have a bullet" guy on Cspan
Our way or no way.

Now, if they were really smart, they would test the first bullet on themselves just to make sure they haven't gone stale or anything.

It is inevitable. Eventually those with the guns will get fed up. Hopefully, they will also be the ones in charge of the military.

It's plausible. We seem to be right now, suddenly losing the WOT. When a few nukes go off, the fed may just disappear like the USSR politburo did. At which point, we'll fracture and infight into 4 or 5 nation-states.

So you think those with the guns will get fed up and shoot those without guns? Call me skeptical.

We would need a "first" American Civil War in order to have a second.

You think the writer was referring to the War Between the States?

54. Here's more. I found a couple of these interesting.......
Interesting the other side, or a couple from there see many people as we do or as a lot of us do.

People not interested enough in their country to vote, participate in anything to make it better, have no idea what's REALLY going on or in this case, invision a fictionary war.

To: Tolsti
Total nonsense.

To have a civil war, you have to have a populace that is drastically split over something they believe in, to the point they are willing to fight and die for their belief.

It would interfere with Saturday Night Football. That makes it unlikely.

Having lived through the 60s, I doubt the country will ever be in greater danger of falling apart. That era of riots, cultural revolution, political radicalization, assassination, Viet Nam war, cold war and potential nuclear war was truly the worst of times.

A civil war is absurd. We have a country that is divided alright. But it's more like 10% right, 10% left and the reamining 80% doesn't give a crap and are sitting right in the middle anxiously waiting for the Jessica Simpson sex tapes to be revealed.

30. That was / is a great post! Sorry I missed it when you got it up there
Yep:

That is the very definition of tyranny. "

If we become like them, they win.

I too have been called/accused of all sorts of things around here because I advocate spending more energy finding common ground than just throwing ideological grenades.

Politics and governance SHOULD be about the willingness to compromise and negotiate. There ARE principles one holds one's ground on, but this tendency by many to insist on all or nothing NOW is just as dangerous coming from the left of the aisle as from the right.

That Freepers have reached a dangerous level of frustration is indicative of many things, not all of them bad. If they are feeling very threatened, it means the shell protecting their delusions has cracks and some reality is seeping in. Delusional people will get pretty agitated when their fantasies are soundly challenged.

I figure if they are talking about hunting us down like their pundit goddess of hate suggests, they are doing so to bolster their sagging moral. Sure, some may well be really dangerous, but more just fall for the corpmedia crap mantra that Liberal = Wuss. Bullies are ALWAYS scared weaklings who target those they consider easy prey. They want to create evidence they are actually strong and brave.

If they start up on most Liberals I know, they are in for some most unpleasant surprises.

My momma had good and simple recommendation which might fit the coming times:
I had better not EVER hear of you starting a fight. But if someone else does, I had better hear you damn well finished it!

Momma was a liberal who knew when to be a tiger.

There were a lot of reasons - not involving slavery - why poor Southerners (who didn't own slaves) fought in that war, but "Southern" independence wasn't one of them. :eyes:

The fundie religionists already have a plan to all move to SC. I say give them the place. I lived in Columbia for 16 years and it was fine but.... if we could get these morons out of our country think how much greater it could be.

As long as we get free passage on I-77, I-26 and I-95 to Florida.... give 'em the joint.

Just think.... Clemson could play South Carolina every week in football. Mandatory Sunday and Wednesday CHRISTIAN church would be required.

And the nation of South Cackalacky could go to war with anyone they want except our country... The United States of America.

Are you planning a re-location effort for the dems in SC? Where will you send us? Just because its awfully red, doesn't mean there aren't some good things that happen here, too.

John Edwards, Stephen Colbert, Jesse Jackson, Althea Gibson, Joe Frazier, Dizzy Gillespie,
William Gibson who coined the term "cyberspace", Eartha Kitt were all born in South Carolina.

Three Nobel prize winners are from South Carolina. We sent Fritz Hollings to the Senate 6 times. The Renaissance weekend made popular by Bill Clinton is held at Hilton Head, SC.

And I know there are many more things I could list.

We don't want to be FundieLand, thank you very much.

Yes. We'll relocate the non-morons. We'll buy your house and move you to wherever you wish with all expenses paid.

Regarding that list of South Cackalacians you name... Do any of them still live in your state?
Edwards, Colbert, Jackson Kitt....NO. I think Smokin' Joe lives in Philly.

Fritz lives at Wild Dunes, last I heard... But he can move to Sea Pines or The Outer Banks.

Big Dog can hold his weekend anywhere.

The only other thing SC has is Steve Spurrier and he's really a Florida boy, anyway. Besides he could coach just about any college in the country.

Bit the bullet. Do it for America. Give The TFM's South Carolina and free the other 49 states of the blight.

join Aryan Nations, belong to Christian Identity churches, and have abandonded the John Birch society because it isn't radical enough.

they reinforce each other with their rhetoric, convince themselves that they are the true Americans, then threaten to assassinate Natalie Main.

Yeah. They're clowns.

But there's a reason that a lot of people are afraid of clowns.

22. One of the delightful absurdities recounted there
Is the one where the Confederate wannabes start reminding us that the US never has had a Civil War - the dust-up in the 1860s was the "War for Southern Independence" or the "War of Northern Aggression."

I've run into a few of these and they are serious, or series! They think Lincoln is the most evil man who ever lived and cite many things to prove it, that the war had "nothing to do with slavery" and everything to do with the North trying to grab the apparently greater wealth of the South.

Another part of the thread had a few rather reasonable freepers saying in response to an assertion that those with guns would fight those who didn't have them, that perhaps Americans with guns would not just shoot their fellow Americans without guns?

A few of them knew it was fictional and ridiculous and urged their fellow freepers not to take it so seriously. Or is that seriesly???///!!!!!!11111

71. To the poor - the vast majority who fought in that war - it
didn't have anything to do with slavery.

Now, you can argue they were duped by the rich who wanted to maintain their lifestyles and I'd agree - but most poor and middle-class Southern soldiers (who couldn't afford to own slave one) were not fighting, in their own minds, for slavery.

As to the rest of your post, yes, there are some very scary people out there who really don't understand or comprehend what the Civil War was about.

The PEOPLE IN THE CITIES HAVE THE MONEY YOU MORONS! If nobody is buying your precious foodstuffs, you'd be dead in the water too! Idiots! And trust me, in the red areas, there are enough people who will sell food and water if there's a profit in it.

BTW: Illinois is the #2 or #3 corn producer. We'll do ok here, too!

And don't make idle threats either you cowards. If you were as bad as you think, you'd be over in Iraq cleaning up your hero's mess. But no, easier to make anonymous and seditious threats against people who would kick your sorry asses around the block.

So, you freeper terrorists: Get out of my country!

36. To some extent, I agree with them
Our nation is severly divided, and the rhetoric on both sides is heating up. The rhetoric on the right has become downright poisonous, with liberals referred to as evil, traitorous, the enemy. It is this sort of thinking that makes it much easier to pick up a gun and start the killing. It really wouldn't take much, a nudge here, a push there, let it get around in the hate filled RW echo chamber for awhile, and voila, instant civil war. However this one won't be like the last one, with clearly marked boundries and such. No, the next one will be much more akin to what it was like in Missouri during the first Civil War, neighbor against neighbor, sharp, short , brutal skirmishes, everybody fighting everybody else and no place that is safe.

I truly hope that doesn't happen, but sadly, I think it is inevietable.

60. Bleeding Kansas.
Those who grew up here in Eastern Kansas or Missouri know all too well about the Civil War, or the "Border War" as it is called around here.

Those slave supporting bastards from Missouri came into Lawrence in the middle of the night (after the town threw a party that night) and slaughtered the men and burned down the town. I once read that a Native American on horseback rode so far and so fast to warn the residents of Lawrence that his horse collapsed and died just outside of Lawrence and he was not able to get there in time.

The good John Brown avenged us, but this area won't forget. Even in sports, our fans hate each other to this day. Hell, even the name the "Jayhawks" is a reference to the Civil War. The "Jayhawkers" were the nickname of people who lived in the area because of the abundance of blue jays and hawks. They were generally a wild, scary bunch in the Wild West. Then the Civil War began and the first cavalry of Kansas took on the nickname. Ever since then, the term "Jayhawks" or "Jayhawkers" is a symbol of pride from that era and shortly after the Civil War it was officially adopted as the mascot of The University of Kansas (the 2007 National Champions).

Having said all of that, I agree completely with you MadHound. It would be more neighbor vs neighbor. Very ugly.

some choice tidbits:

Actually... Most blue cities would starve in short order if red areas refused to supply food and water. LA and SF are prime examples. They are blue surrounded by a sea of red - red where the water and food comes from.

NO YOU IDIOT, IT COMES FROM THE PIGGLY WIGGLY!!

I do some writing on the side, and I've been toying with a similar idea for a full length novel; maybe even a series of them.

A SEQUEL TO MY PET GOAT?

The healed wounds of the Civil War are being picked at by the race-baiters of the "black leadership".
They understand that they need to aggravate the old grievances by studied insults, like equating the CSA battle flag to racism.
Right now, the most active racists are blacks.

"ACTIVE RACISTS?"

The Left has BEEN throwing bombs in this country for over 100 years.
The current crop of radicals have direct ties to the groups that committed terrorist acts and targeted elected members of Congress in the 1960s and 1970s.
That they robbed banks and shot cops to fund anarchist dreams is the stuff of legend. They are celebrated by the Left today.
The question is not if but when the Left will go out in their blaze of glory. And I hope that the National Guard does the proper thing and quells their seditious revolt with bullets that are NOT made of rubber.
Too many of the radicals of the 1960s (including Jane Fonda) never were charged for their crimes. The leaders of this nation should not make the same mistake if this nation is to survive.
I do not believe in vigilantism. I want to see the government squash those who believe they can overthrow this government. The Socialist Left and the followers of Radical Islam do NOT support our constitutional form of government. They champion our Constitutional protections only in that they can be misused to shield their acts of sedition. It is in the Al Qaeda handbook (which you can view at the Smoking Gun).
While laws against sedition come and go, treason is defined in the Constitution. Our legislators have been lax in carrying out their duties to this country.

98. What I learned in Freeperville today.
Edited on Wed Nov-29-06 01:59 PM by Minnesota_Lib
1.) The Civil War was not a civil war after all...and it was not about slavery (despite the fact that several of the official Declarations of Causes of Seceding States list the preservation of that institution as the main issue). Who you going to believe: the people who actually seceded or the experts over at Freep Central?

2.) Mexican street gangs will force the U.S. to hand over parts of the southwest to Mexico. ECK!

3.) Civil war can be avoided if states are gerrymandered with heavily red areas being divided into tiny, ittsy-bitsy new states so as to give the Republican minority a permanent advantage in the House, Senate and Electoral College.

4.) In the new “Republican” states, followers of Islam and all lefties will be “dealt” with immediately but compassion will be shown to illegal immigrants who will given 24 hours to get out or face being sold to China to be used as slave labor and organ donors.

5.) Righties who want to force all other citizens to adhere to their religious and moral beliefs and who advocate turning this nation into a theocracy are correct in saying the left is guilty of “social engineering.”

6.) Everyone who owes a gun, knows how to use a gun and/or who services or has serviced in the military are all hardline rightwing conservatives who will not hesitate to kill their neighbors for voting blue.

7.) In a democracy, having enough bullets is an acceptable alternative to having enough votes.

That is enough “learning” for today. My head's going to :nuke:

.
