They made this frivolous statement thinking that those innocent people beng spied upon wouldn't KNOW they were being observed. But, as usual, some industrious and ingenious DU'ers have found a way:

I myself could use some help - I checked my firewall logs but it only had IP addresses, not domain names. I haven't set up any foreign emails - yet.
