25 senators stood strong on Alito--let's thank them
Twenty-four Democrats and one independent voted for a filibuster--doing everything in their power to prevent Samuel Alito from replacing Sandra Day O'Connor on the Supreme Court.

We should encourage more senators to show this kind of courage by thanking those who stand up for our values. I just took 5 minutes to write a quick note of appreciation to the senators who supported the filibuster. You can do the same at:

http://political.moveon.org/alitothanks/

MoveOn will pass on the note to the 25 senators who did all they could to stop Alito from being confirmed as the next Supreme Court justice.

Thanks.

3. Thanks, This was a good exercise for me. I'm not as sad anymore.
I think this may be the silver lining in a very dark cloud. We had 25 Americans with power stand up for our Constitution. Maybe next time we'll get 51?

11. in that case, bitch at the ones that didn't do their jobs. The point is,
other "mailmen" aren't giving your mailman a hard time for doing his/her job. The ones that stood up are getting shit for it by others who didn't.

19. I wrote my own:

Dear Senator Stabenow/Levin:
The Alito vote didn't turn out as I had hoped but I wanted to drop you a note to tell you that I appreciated that you voted against cloture. You obviously knew that because of the Republican majority, the subsequent confirmation vote was meaningless. I am not sure I understand why a Senator would vote for cloture and then vote against the nomination, but that is a totally different subject.

Thank You for doing the right thing.

22. My letter of thanks.
Dear senator,

Thank you for your efforts. It's nice to see at least SOME of our representatives are trying to fight off the imbalance in our government.

With the gross abuse of civil rights in the executive branch, and Alito's appointment given his Unitary Executive views, this nation is in dire straits.

I urge you to keep fighting, you have our support. Please, I beg you, fight to preserve our nation. As long as they "Win" the republicans don't care what they do to this country, the constitution, the economy, to the balance of government power, or to our civil rights.

Stand strong and those who agree with you will support you, those who don't agree, at least will respect you.

Sincerely,

The fight has only started. Now we have to fight for the balance of power and the relevance of congress.
