Reuters: George Bush "is spending part of his Christmas holiday reading
CRAWFORD, Texas (Reuters) - President George W. Bush is spending part of his Christmas holiday reading . . .
Bush, reading? Right.

Bush was 'reading' "When Trumpets Call: Theodore Roosevelt After the White House," by Patricia O'Toole, and "Imperial Grunts: The American Military on the Ground," by Robert Kaplan while on holiday at his Texas ranch, said .

Asked whether there was any significance that Bush, who has three years left in office, was 'reading' a book about the post-White House years of a former president, Duffy replied that Bush is a "history buff" and "avid reader."

"The president knows full well that he's got a lot of time left in this second term and he's going to accomplish big things, as he's talked about repeatedly," White House spokesman Trent Duffy said.

In addition to 'reading', Bush is also spending time on two of his favorite pursuits, clearing brush and biking.

2. That's a typo ...
"history buff" and "avid reader."

It was supposed to read: "historical buffoon" and "vapid leader".

6. When Clinton Was Prez - I Never Recall Clinton Reading A Book
"big news"

This is just embarrassing - the MSM making a big deal out of Bush reading a book. He should be reading books all the time.

14. No kidding, you'd think the WH would be embarassed
that they have to leak stories that basically say "Look, the leader of the free world isn't as stupid as you thought!" Of course I remember that on his vacation he was reading the history of Alexander The Great :eyes: Anyone want to be that behind those book covers is an Archie comic book. That Jughead is such a riot!

4. Oh the picture is priceless
Of course he has to clear all the brush on his place,he thinks there is a terrorist behind every bush and he doesn't want those evil ones sneaking up on him while he is out riding his tricycle.

8. I guess the "cowboy" image has run it's course
I keep thinking of all those ridiculous pictures of him in his boots and cowboy hats and shit and now I am thinking they are going to start putting out pictures of him reading, in libraries, wearing glasses, carrying around stacks of books and carrying book-bags with the presidential seal on them. :eyes:

12. You've hit the proverbial nail on the head ...
My husband saw David Brooks on TV a week ago, rambling on about how Bush has been labelled as stupid, non-intellectual, etc., but that in reality, he's a very smart, well-educated man.

So apparently this is the new 'talking point' that's been handed out with the latest pitcher of Kool-Aid.

Of course, as with so many Repub mis-steps, they don't realize that the 'intellectual crowd' they want to convert to being pro-Bush with this change-of-image are TOO SMART not to recognize it for what it is.

Wait for the soon-to-be-released photo-op pictures of Bush lounging around the Oval Office, book-in-hand -- and of course, a closer look will undoubtedly reveal that the book he's 'reading' is upside-down!

13. Exactly!
"hey don't realize that the 'intellectual crowd' they want to convert to being pro-Bush with this change-of-image are TOO SMART not to recognize it for what it is."

That's why I keep laughing at this whole story. It's so obvious what they are trying to do and they are making him look like more of an idiot than he already looks. Even my mother, who is never political and doesn't really have much to say on these matters said the other day "That guy is stupid"..lol.

9. Anyone who believes Bush is a history buff and avid reader...
is a fool. He supposedly is taking on two books with 396 and 445 pages and clearing brush and biking, all while on vacation. His PR people are certainly getting creative.

Bush Regales Dinner Guests With Impromptu Oratory On Virgil's Minor Works

WASHINGTON, DC—President Bush delighted an intimate gathering of White House dinner guests Monday, regaling the coterie of dignitaries, artists, and friends with a spirited, off-the-cuff discussion of the Roman poet Virgil's lesser-known works.

11. Did the Clinton White House have to issue press releases
to let the American people know that the president did indeed READ? I don't ever remember hearing this. But then everyone knew that Bill Clinton was a pretty intelligent guy.
