SCIENCE TEACHERS ASSOCIATION REFUSES COPIES OF 'INCONVENIENT TRUTH
Global warming activist Laurie David reported in the Washington Post that the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) refused 500,000 free DVD copies of An Inconvenient Truth, which scientists gave "five stars for accuracy." David wrote, "In their e-mail rejection, they expressed concern that other 'special interests' might ask to distribute materials, too; they said they didn't want to offer 'political' endorsement of the film; and they saw 'little, if any, benefit to NSTA or its members' in accepting the free DVDs." The NSTA also expressed concern that accepting the DVDs would place "unnecessary risk upon the capital campaign, especially certain targeted supporters." But those supporters already include "special interests," including Exxon-Mobil, Shell Oil, and the American Petroleum Institute, which have given millions in funding to the NSTA. The NSTA has freely distributed oil industry-funded "educational" content like "Fuel-less: You Can't Be Cool Without Fuel," produced by the American Petroleum Institute (API). The film features the opening line: "You're absolutely not going to believe this, but everything I have that's really cool comes from oil!" An API memo leaked to the media in 1998 explains the motivation behind such videos: "Informing teachers/students about uncertainties in climate science will begin to erect barriers against further efforts to impose Kyoto-like measures in the future."

The piece was written by Laurie David, who produced the movie. It says 50,000 copies, not 500,000.

6. I remember watching a film once in a science class about energy production
(that is, how fuel is turned into electricity and then transmitted to homes) which had been made by a large energy company (BP I think) and distributed free to schools. Naturally, it was somewhat skimpy on renewable alternatives to gas and coal, and failed to mention things like the North Sea not having an infinite supply of gas. It basically said "all our electricity comes from gas and coal. Nuclear has many advantages but is VERy expensive. So we'll always use gas and coal. Yay for our friends gas and coal!"

This was in the UK, and about 15 years ago, so hardly that relevant. But it was propaganda.

13. Objective? There is still debate.
Only 99+% of expert scientists agree global warming is an issue.

If they start teaching about this issue they'd have to teach all sorts of crazy theories like...evolution, the world being more than 6,000 years old.

12. I sent the NSTA a happy gram Friday....
...Explaining to them that Sweden has made it madatory to watch the documentary in their schools and here we are in the States trying to make ii mandatory to put a fairy tale into our curiculum..Sad, very very sad indeed.

I also told them that they are contrbuting to the dumbing down of American by not allowing such important information to get to out kids. Showing this would more then likely make alot more kids interested in the sciences and we all know how the fundmentalist Nazis feel about science and reason.

Send NSTA an email and give them a good What-For! The need a good lashing for this ignorant behavior.
