After weeks of calls, faxes and letters, and watching the proceedings all day long yesterday, and then the vote for cloture, my husband and I picked up where we left off watching the entire West Wing series on DVD.
We're on the 5th season, and tonight of all nights our reviewing picked up at episodes 7 and 8. Episode 7 was about the power of Supreme court nominations. Hard to watch after the day I'd had. But Episode 8 was the one to watch...
It's the episode where Barlett is pushed to the edge by a greedy, smarmy congressman in the majority who goes back on his deal to get the next budget and keep the government running. It's the episode where Barlett gets his poker face on and calls the smarmyman's bluff, he says "SHUT IT DOWN". Political moves come hot and heavy including a walk to the guys office then being told to wait outside until smarmyman's meeting is over. After being photographed, waiting, he agrees with Josh's suggestion and they LEAVE! Point made, game won. Just absofreakinlutely amazing!
Anyway, I guess the Universe thought I deserved a little fictional victory for my spirit. Small solace, I know, but it also reminded me of Will Pitt and his SOTU walkout suggestion. And my love for brave men with balls.
