RW twit no longer in charge of education in Kansas
Kansas education commissioner resigns
By MELODEE HALL BLOBAUM
The Kansas City Star

TOPEKA | Kansas Education Commissioner Bob Corkins resigned this afternoon, ending a short and stormy tenure as the state’s education chief.

On a 7-3 vote, the state Board of Education agreed to accept Corkins’ resignation, effective today. He will get a 30-day severance package.

He was hired in October 2005 on a 6-4 vote along moderate-conservative lines over four candidates with classroom and school administrative experience. Corkins, a conservative policy analyst, attorney and former lobbyist, had no working experience in education.

From the beginning, Corkins appeared to have an agenda that raised concerns among people in public education, said Mark Tallman of the Kansas Association of School Boards.

2. That used to be fairly routine
Folks who wanted to go into politics often ran for school board as a first step.

3. Woohoo
Corkins' previous experience was working at conservative think tanks. I'm sure he'll land on his feet which will be a good thing since the door hit him hard on the ass on his way out. I doubt he'll be sitting anytime soon.
