Survived the religious right today
We all got along just fine. The really strange thing was that when politics came up they were either lost for words or even admitted that the Republicans deserved what they got!

On the other hand, I had to listen to a few of them talk amongst themselves about their INSANE religious views that tie into EVERYTHING! They are scientifically illiterate, have limited knowledge of history, don't think through what they believe and say, and exhibit a penchant for believing whatever some TV preacher or TV preacher's guest says about whatever.

1. They actually thought W was pastor in chief as well as CIC
Many evangelicals were taught that W was ordained by God to bring on Armageddon. In the meantime, they sought to cram their theocratic views down secular throats.

They lost big time.

7. And you're somehow able to refrain from punching them in the throat?
I don't know if Jesus had that kind of patience.

but yes, they do. Babbling incoherently is the high point of many a charismatic/Pentecostal/Evangelical service, along with fake healing. This isn't the case with snake handler churches, they've got a different gig.

It's such a common phenomenon in the south that it's been taped and sent to linguistics profs all over the place. It's just babbling, no structure and no relationship to any known language, past or present.

It's the same phenomenon at work with all those people at Stupid's Potemkin town meetings waving their arms in the air to receive Stupid's grace, confusing him with Jesus.

3. I'm happy to say that I didn't...

I had Thanksgiving dinner with my kids and husband.

I cut off my dysfunctional family of origin a few years ago--due to abuse issues during my childhood.

It was a big step to cut them off, but now I can't imagine being in the same room
with them.

Their radical political views--ultra-right-wing Fundies--were the most benign parts of their
personality.

Here's to new beginnings, and a promising future!

9. Seeing some of them a couple times a year forces
all of us to get along. Others we see more often. One of the worst lives near us. His wife is actually very level headed. She is a religious conservative, but is worlds apart from him. My wife and I have noticed that his behavior gets on her nerves. She actually roles her eyes when he spouts many of his views. If it were not for her, we would never associate with him.

All of us men went for a walk today. This same guy teamed up with another right wing religious fanatic, but oddly enough, he may have been getting on his nerves too! It may have had something to so with how he talked nonstop and was all over the place with his crazy thoughts. The other guy just walked along and listened to him because he couldn't get a word in edge wise.

One of the normal family members walked with me, and we both laughed at them to ourselves, because their conversation was just really bizarre to hear.
