Remember "The Ugly American?" How about "The Ugly Republican?"

An argument for why Americans are not universally loved is the theory of the ugly American. I would suggest that at least one of the reasons we did so well in this election is because the ugliness of the Republican heart was finally recognized by the voters. Try as they did to disguise it in lies and memes and soundbites, the sheer meanness and ugliness of their policies and their greed sank them.

It's as relevent--if not more so--today as it was when originally published.

BTW, the ugly American in the book was actually a protagonist.

...they don't think so, of course. And, given the connotation of the phrase "ugly American," "ugly Republican" seems like a fitting meme.
