WASHINGTON, Jan. 30 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Following is a statement of Kim Gandy, president of the National Organization for Women, regarding the cloture vote on the nomination of Judge Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court:

We commend the 25 honorable senators, led by John Kerry and Ted Kennedy, who voted on principle today -- choosing a valiant stand for justice over weak-kneed capitulation to George Bush's stacking of the Supreme Court.

Today's vote is the only Alito vote that really counts. Votes against Alito tomorrow are irrelevant, and no senator who voted "Yes" today can hide behind a "No" vote tomorrow.

Supporters of women's rights, civil rights and the separation of powers lost this pivotal battle because senators who should have been fighting for their constituents chose not to do so. But in the process we exposed the despicable agenda of the right wing, and their unrelenting determination to undermine our rights and liberties.

This is the first of many fights for the soul of our democracy, and we will eventually emerge victorious.

1. Damn straight.
I don't want to hear from ANY Dem senator who votes NO on the actual confirmation but refused to vote NO on cloture. They had the power to stop this nomination, and they blew it. Do they expect the repugs to go along if we ever regain Congress? Do you think repugs will let HILLARY'S nominations pass through easily, if she were president?

7. I like your graphic - but I was wondering
it would be very effective if you were to list the names of women who died from botched, illegal abortions watermarked behind it.

It would have a poetry about it then, that would make it something that even a suburbanite like me could put on their car, and not have it keyed while I was in the grocery store. It would be a moving tribute.

2. That is absolutely correct
The satanators who voted for cloture today proved to the world they have no qualms eating their own young. We're going to have an African standard of living in a decade with this court.

10. Wow, I read the OP as Shrub
"Calls Cloture Vote the Only Alito Vote that Counts"

That is I read it as, NOW the President ...

Almost freaked because I'm thinking that is what Rove is going to suggest, i.e., Senators who voted for cloture are the only votes that count in order to attack . . ya know those "radical liberals".
