OK, my weird meter just pegged!!
Edited on Thu Nov-16-06 06:57 PM by Target_For_Exterm
"Idaho town asks residents to own guns

GREENLEAF, Idaho - After seeing the chaos of Hurricane Katrina, a city councilor in this tiny Idaho town founded by pacifist Quakers came up with a novel idea.

Ordinance 208, passed by the City Council on Tuesday, asks Greenleaf's 862 residents who do not object on religious or other grounds to keep a gun at home in case they are overrun by refugees from disasters like Katrina.

"This is not an 'it'll never happen here kind of thing,'" said Steven Jett, the ordinance's sponsor. "We could get refugees."

In this town about 35 miles west of Boise near the Oregon line — where an estimated 80 percent of the adults already own guns — the proposal hardly caused a stir: It went through weeks of public hearings and drew only mild criticism from the pastor of the town's Quaker meeting house."

So, instead of holding the Bush Administration accountable for their disasterous Katrina response, they all go out and buy guns to keep the survivors out? :wtf:

OK, no more Republican or Fundie weirdness today - my meter is pegged.

2. Does ANYONE want to go to Idaho?
Seems like the pillaging barbaric hordes would be escaping Idaho for points elsewhere.

stuff. Right now, the Blackwater (Ravens something show's named mercenaries are rogue and supposedly acting on behalf of HLS) mercs are being portrayed, it is interesting that this show is paralleling this areas response. I wasn't going to watch the show, thinking this is proganda, however, now, it seems to be mimicking the actions of our citizens. Strange, hmm.

Edit for sp. check error in correcting word.

Edit to correct my mistake

7. I thought it was going to be pure propaganda and started taping
it, but, to my surprise, like you said, brings up a lot of interesting issues!

I also like The Unit, knowing that it is propagandistic, but I could see my way through most of it. This week, may have killed that show for me, because, if this is truly the training our special forces get, then we are a society completely devoid of morality.

13. My wife's a fan of that show...
I sometimes watch it. Haven't watched this week's episode yet. Nor have I watched this week's episode of Jericho.

And I'd hazard a bet our special force units are trained MUCH like that--similar to elite forces all over the world throughout most of history.

31. Do you think though that we would fall into such despair so fast...
Or would we help one another? I think the show opens my eyes mostly towards creating better community bonds between people. I def. think small town America would make it over the big cities. But I would love to open up a community relations center that brings everyone in the community together. I think that people are so focused on themselves and their own immediate problems they don't realize what is out there... or that enlarging your circle on knowns is really great.

When I lived in Charleston, SC it seemed like everyone knew everyone. If you were waiting on a cross walk waiting to cross the intersection you could meet someone that somehow you had common knowledge with. I knew so many people in round about ways and ended up getting more acomplished in my own life because of that. So, I know its possible to conect community members in a positive way. Rich and poor, old and young, elected officials and citizens and help services (like police and firefighters). I would love to do this. If I win the lottery (and perhaps I have--I haven't checked my ticket yet)... I would open up a center for this (non-profit) that would center on getting people together.

Now, if anyone is independently wealthy and like this idea pm me.. we'll get together and do. Its the only way to have a united states... by uniting--it starts at a community level.

5. the town may have been 'founded'
by Quakers, but they must have been either killed off- or run off.
If the world comes to this- the only bullet I'll need is one- for myself-

Wish I could convince myself this was some kind of 'abberation'- but even with the 'turn-around' in 'government' I feel like this nation had jumped the rails, and we're on a runaway train to places that should not be spoken of-

28. so true, but you haven't gotten the memo...
... if you aren't among the 'elite'- then you are with the enemy. Being in need- or suffering, when it can't be used for political exploitation is not acceptable-

We condemn countries in Africa, and dictatorships like Iraq was, for exploiting their people while the 'few' live like royalty-

And we'll spend whatever it takes to go to war against "terror" but god help anyone who needs medical care, and hasn't got insurance- they must grovel, and beg for relief from the very REAL terror, of dying slowly and painfully from diseases that could be easily stoped with proper medical care-

but I digress-

Your point is perfect Helderheid- are we the 'united' states or are we the untied states?- everyone for themselves???

We need to hold onto 'things' loosely, and value people as we hope to be valued, and treated.-

is it possible?
god I hope so-
