1. They're both a symptom and a cause of ignorance in our country.
People love the breathless reportage and whiz-bang graphics; they think it means something's important.

2. I can't believe there's no plans to burn it all the way down by
the people who see through all their bs. It's a total scam and has a very adverse effect on democracy.

4. FOX fans know they are being lied to; it's just they approve of the lies
I don't care about getting rid of tabloid trash like FOX, I just want them to stop their ridiculous FAIR AND BALANCED act and admit what they are - repuke propaganda

3. There is still Free Speech in this country
The only way to "eliminate" Fox News is to educate its viewers. Then they'll stop watching.

10. Unfortunately, free speech isn't the issue
Of course, if you have a billion dollars, you can start your own network and slant the "news" any way you want. But how many Americans have a billion lying around for media investments?

5. We can support "The Real News"...
...to give people a choice.

It's a TV news show from progressives planned for September:

6. Thank you, and I agree, but isn't that a little like turning our backs on
a rattlesnake?

9. I don't think there is a legislative answer to Fox News.
Edited on Thu Nov-16-06 08:18 PM by Eric J in MN
Even if Congress restored the "Fairness Doctrine," Fox News is on cable and wouldn't be affected.

Even if Congress broke up media conglomerates, Fox News is profitable and would keep going.

The only legislation I can think of off-hand which would have some effect on Fox News would be a bill for more balance in what the Armed Forces shows soldier and marines.

7. How to deal with faux?
like this:http://foi.missouri.edu/newsmgmtabroad/crtconvicts.html

snip....'ARUSHA, Tanzania, Dec. 3 — In the first case of its kind since the Nuremberg trials, an international court here on Wednesday convicted three Rwandans of genocide for media reports that fostered the killing of about 800,000 Rwandans, mostly of the Tutsi minority, over several months in 1994.

The court said the newspaper "poisoned the minds" of readers

Wednesday's verdicts were the first convictions of media executives for crimes of genocide since 1946, when the Nuremberg tribunal sentenced the Nazi propagandist, Julius Streicher, to hang for his campaign against the Jews.'
