Indonesian witch doctor puts hex on Bush

- By AFP

Bogor, Indonesia: A prominent Indonesian "black magic" practitioner on Thursday joined protests against US President George W. Bush’s visit, slaughtering animals as he cast a spell aimed at disrupting the stay.

The ritual by Ki Gendeng Pamungkas took place at a busy roundabout in this hill town which will host talks between Bush and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Monday.

Pamungkas said the ritual, which involved killing a snake, a black crow and a goat, deployed "Haitian-style voodoo" because "Indonesian black magic does not work on foreigners".

Smearing his face with a mixture of his own blood and that from the slaughtered animals into which broccoli and sugar cane was also cast, Pamungkas offered prayers to "Satan, who will bring disasters on US President George W. Bush’s visit".

"My curse will make him bloat like broccoli. Bush will feel unease during the visit," he said, confident that the hex would work on the President.

6. I can't agree with that
Magic should be practiced for the good.

Bide the Wiccan Law ye must,
In perfect love, in perfect trust.
Eight words the Wiccan Rede fulfil:
An harm ye none, do what ye will.
What ye send forth comes back to thee,
So ever mind the rule of three.
Follow this with mind and heart,
And merry ye meet, and merry ye part.

27. You are projecting a very western concept onto other systems of magik
Edited on Fri Nov-17-06 02:58 PM by kineta
Energy can 'hit it's target' without bouncing back to it's source - just as a light wave will continue to travel until it hits an obstacle. The 'wiccan rede', while a nice sentiment, is not a universal law but a code of conduct for wiccan's. Or so I've been told by a third degree wiccan priestess. It's arrogant to assume that one's beliefs apply to every other system. Afro-Caribbean magik for instance has nothing like the idea of karma, if something comes back at you it's because of your own weakness or lack of connection with your ancestors or deities. I'm NOT saying one system is better or more right than another - just different ways to live in the world and interpret reality. Ultimately, you choose the ethical code that makes the most sense for you - that expresses the way you want to live in the world. Personally, I'm in the 'chaos magik' camp - you can choose the paradigm you want to work in and the 'rules' of that paradigm will hold sway while working in that paradigm.

8. But "Haitian-style voodoo" doesn't invoke Satan...
...it's based on African religions. Geez, everybody ought to know that by now.

Honestly, this hex seems redundant. This is the man who left New Orleans of all cities to drown, after all.

Haitian-style vodouisants don't even use the word 'voodoo', much less make sacrifices to Satan. oy-vey.

14. Slaughtering animals makes me sick though
I really do have a problem with this. I have a rescue horse and a rescue dog. The 5 year old horse was an Amish neglected and abused horse and she would have been headed to slaughter had I not gotten to her when I did.

21. Pamungkas is one rough mutha.
If word of his Broccoli-Bloat spell gets out, nuclear proliferation will be the least of our worries.
Should North Korea or Iran get ahold of that we. are. toast.
I think he should at least be put on the 'no-fly' list.
Does Cheney know about this?
