I don't have a dog in this fight... Though I think a candidate other than Murtha (and) Hoyer should emerge for the good of the party....

1. Kerry is a member of the DLC
Or at least he was through running for president. I've heard he's no longer a member.

Your stance on the political spectrum is not the qualifications for membership to the DLC

2. I Would Think Your Votes Are More Important...
Hoyer's got a 95 ADA rating and Murtha a 75 rating...

IMHO, Kerry joined the DLC for political expediency...

5. Exactly
But Murtha supported Pelosi when she ran for minority leader AND I think Murtha's anti-war stance will be important when we try to get our troops out of Iraq. Plus, I'm thinking the Democrats are gonna put abortion at the bottom of the list for "Things To Do" outside of stem cell research and perhaps increase in family planning. Abortion is nothing more than a wedge issue used by republicans. No need for us to play that game.

4. The Prudent Thing Is To Pick A Third Person For The Job.
That way it appears as no one caved...

John Lewis would be a fine pick...

6. I don't see why everyone here dogpiles on Hoyer, anyway.
Is it just because he and Pelosi don't get along personally? When it comes to the actual issues, it seems that they agree. It's not like he's a DINO or a blue dog.

I do believe John Lewis would be a better choice, though.

8. here in the dc area, it is universally reported that hoyer is NOT liberal.
he is an old-fashioned Maryland Democratic machine politician, like Ben Cardin. Sarbanes is the last of the heartfelt MD liberals. the rest of them (including Repubs like Ehrlich) use it for votes, period, so they can run again and continue sucking up corporate cash. That is how MD (and NJ) works, unfortunately. Remember how Barbara Mikulski was such a big fan of, i believe it was wiretapping? I was shocked until I remembered that it's all about social issues for these folks, that is their only litmus test for calling themselves "95% liberal".

Is Murtha any better? I don't know. Where's Hoyer been on the war?
