Republican reveals Bush Plan to avoid Impeachment

Former GOP Congressman, Bob Barr of Georgia, has penned a second op-ed column condemning Bush's illegal wiretap scheme. It appeared in today's Atlanta Journal-Constitution. This time the former US Attorney explains how Bush will try to avoid a well-deserved impeachment proceeding. It's a good primer for what to expect as the coverage progresses.

2. LOL - excellent summary! :-)
"the expected plan of lying, word-parsing, stonewalling, smearing the accusers and utilizing partisanship in defense of his "illegal spying on American citizens" that has already begun." LOL :-)

From OP-ED: http://www.ajc.com/opinion/content/opinion/1205/28edbarr.html
<snip>First, in the best tradition of former President Bill Clinton's classic, "it-all-depends-on-what-the-meaning-of-is-is" defense, President Bush responded to a question at a White House news conference about what now appears to be a clear violation of federal electronic monitoring laws by trying to argue that he had not ordered the National Security Agency to "monitor" phone and e-mail communications of American citizens without court order; he had merely ordered them to "detect" improper communications.

This example of presidential phrase parsing was followed quickly by the president's press secretary, Scott McLellan, dead-panning to reporters that when Bush said a couple of years ago that he would never allow the NSA to monitor Americans without a court order, what he really meant was something different than what he actually said. If McLellan's last name had been McCurry, and the topic an illicit relationship with a White House intern rather than illegal spying on American citizens, I could have easily been listening to a White House news conference at the height of the Clinton impeachment scandal.<snip>

3. Dayum!
I think ol' Bob is still smarting about the Clinton fiasco leading to the demise of his own career. But whatever. Go Bob!

4. SO, Barr said he wants to see the dems take back congress,
I cannot agree with much Barr has stood for. But I do recognize principle, even conservative principle and I respect it.

"W" must be shitting in his pants about now. He should be.

This is going to be a very bad year to be a B*sh supporter.

Houdini couldn't get out of this impeachment scenario.

You have to respect Barr, though. When he actually came out against B*sh this last election (in favor of the Libertarian), we knew B*sh lost the true conservatives. It is equally true, with every move he makes, he just makes more enemies.

This is going to work out, in the end. And Karma really is a bitch.

Joe

5. What I think has gone under the radar, is Bush's lack of a domestic agenda
The northeast is about to be in a home-heating crisis. Once this happens, Bush will be in really big trouble.

9. It really has so far.
I live in Los Angeles. But I was born near Pittsburg. My family lives in west PA.

You are right.

I think it is clear - if you don't own a big oil company - he doesn't give a shit about you, he never did.

It is funny to me how some people come to a conclusion that "big business" is to blame.

Every interst has an opposite. Money is finite. For every f-cking oil company there is a good tech business competing for the same dollars. B*sh really did slant the tables in favor of the oil companies. And our country is going to pay for that, one way or another.

You look back, for every Exxon that backed this SOB there was a Buffet, or Jobs countering.

He is in big trouble. Maybe he could cheat a point or two in the 2004 election. He cannot do that in 50 states in 2006.

I really do pray for a mild winter back east, I do.

Joe

6. Bob Barr
In Jan of 2000, Barr was campaigning for Steve Forbes in Iowa and after a particular event in Sioux City, Iowa, I walked up to Barr and called him a dirty little nazi bastard.........he was stunned to say the least........now it seems that I must now offer a genuine salute to Mr. Barr for speaking out against the Bu$h dictatorship.........Additionally , in 02, I was stanidng along a parade route for Big Time Dick, in a area that I was not suppose to be, but one of the local cops allowed me to be there and of course I had an impeach Bu$h and Cheney sign and as the motorcade drove by, that evil bastard Cheney saw the sign and gave me the 'finger', which I returned with a great deal of vigor........while the local cop stood there and laughed.....what fond memories !!!!!!!

These evil bastards must be removed from office, sooner rather than later.......

11. Why can't you people provide the real link?
What you provided isn't much better than telling people about this thread but giving them the link to DU's homepage.
