Russ Feingold will not run for President in 2008.
I just heard this on CSPAN 1.

The announcer also said that the Bush popularity stands at 31 percent.

George W Bush, and the Republican party your empire has turned back to sand!

Dear Friends and Supporters,

On Sunday, November 12th in Racine, I will hold my 1000th Listening Session with the people of Wisconsin. Before reaching that milestone, I want you to know that I've decided to continue my role as Wisconsin's Junior Senator in the U.S. Senate and not to seek the Democratic nomination for President in 2008.

3. Too bad...
I'm not even American, but Feingold was the only Senator to vote against the Patriot Act. The only one.

It's a big loss for American democracy.

WASHINGTON - Sen. Russ Feingold will not seek his party's presidential nomination in 2008, the Wisconsin Democrat told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Saturday.

"I never got to that point where I'd rather be running around the country, running for president, than being a senator from Wisconsin," Feingold said in a phone interview from Madison.

Feingold, 53, conceded that he faced long odds of winning the nomination.

"It would have required the craziest combination of things in the history of American politics to make it work," he said.

Hope, hope.

I would just love to see Clark or Gore paired up with Russ. :loveya:

8. He's Needed In The Senate
He was a lone voice calling for accountability by this regime on a variety of fronts and has amassed seniority that gives him far more influence by being a Senator than he could as running for President. Plus, alas, his chances are slim. Russ isn't a "glad-hander"...a who can schmooze people ala a Bill Clinton. Also, Russ has been too clean...he hasn't taken much K Street and corporate money and would be at a severe fundraising disadvantage.
