Frat brothers sue Borat for exposing their racist beliefs.
http://www.tmz.com/2006/11/09/borat-lawsuit-high-five/

Two anonymous plaintiffs are suing 20th Century Fox and One America Productions, claiming members of their college fraternity were interviewed to become part of the smash "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan" film.

The plaintiffs -- listed as John Doe 1 and John Doe 2 -- were allegedly assured the film would not be shown in the U.S. and their identities would not be revealed.

They were both selected to appear in the movie and, according to the suit, taken "to a drinking establishment 'to loosen up' and provided alcoholic beverages." They claim they signed the movie releases after "heavy drinking."

The suit claims both men were then taken to a motor home where they were filmed, all the while "encouraged to continue drinking."

The movie features a scene in a motor home where Cohen gets drunk with three frat boys who go on a racist rant about how they wished they had slaves and how minorities in the United States "have all the power."

What happened to personal responsibility?? I can't believe these losers actually think they want to fight this?

Shit, you're fucking racist bigots John Doe 1 and 2. Grow up and face the music on your despicable rant rather than sueing over getting caught.

4. Pretty funny.
Considering how well planned that movie was, there's no way in hell that the releases they signed left anything out. There was a Slate explainer article about it: http://www.slate.com/id/2151865/

They took the Mel Gibson high road o glory. "I'm not really a racist piece of shit, i was just drunk". Sorry not an excuse!

6. They Deserve A Cut
I loved the movie - it was funny as hell. However, these guys were REALLY drunk, not just Mel-Gibson-Two-Beers-and-I'm-Yammering-About-The-Protols-of-the-Elders-of-Zion drunk. Drink doesn't create new thoughts - but it does amplify the bad thoughts that all of us have in our id.

They have been utterly humiliated - perhaps they deserved this, but I'm not convinced.

10. IWhen I'm really drunk, I start yelling about how badly gays are treated
and then I start crying. Always. It's really quite embarassing.

But I've never turned into a racist bigot. No matter how drunk I've been. Loud, obnoxious, but never racist.

But then, I'm not a racist when I'm sober.

See how that works?

18. Yep.
Exactly. I've never ever ever once uttered anything racist or homophobic while drunk. That's because I'm not racist or homophobic while sober.

24. Id.
All of us have dark thoughts deep down inside - they're not rational, but they're there. Did you ever want to punch someone? Or yell at the cop giving you a speeding ticket?

Fortunately, most of us can control those things with our rational mind, but they can pop out sometimes. It's not a good thing. But it is what it is - the human condition. One of the things that separates us from Rethugs is that we recognize the human condition and try to work with it the best we can. The Rethugs, however, deny the human condition (other than greed).

38. Dude, I don't know what type of skeletons are in you closet...
But experience has told me that those who seem like assholes while sober are FLAMING assholes while drunk. If they are racist, I usually find out easily enough, I'm white, so I'm "safe", at least that's what they think. I imagine that if they are drunk, they simply forget who is safe or who isn't, and broadcasting that shit on television, with a bigassed camera in front of you, just shows that you didn't care cause you were drunk. No big secret though, that much should be clear, I imagine their frat knew, along with most friends and some family(depends on the family).

Granted, I learned to avoid these types of assholes, apparently, my type of "drunkenness" isn't compatible with theirs. I'm a happy drunk, in other words, I laugh at the stupidity of others and myself when smashed, this isn't conductive when asshole drunks are around, unfortunately, that leads to me getting hurt, but still laughing. If I have any deep dark thought that's supposed to be revealed while drunk, it would be that life is a long running joke to me, or something, I have no idea, to be honest.

14. Oh yeah,
When i get drunk i love to bash gays, and want to hang jews, and own slaves.:eyes: Truth is if i was drunk and you tried to get me on that path the only result would be me punching you in the face. Drinking lowers inhibitions, like admitting your a racist piece of shit. Drinking also does not make you do thinks that you don't think about. It just keeps you from having the sense not to do them.

23. It may not be possible to fix stupid
From the fact set laid out in the article, it's hard to see how the plaintiffs might prevail. "I'm really stupid and I was really drunk" hardly seems like the sort of exculpatory evidence someone's going to need for winning a suit.

But these young Republicans have to get started on their careers of running to the courthouse every time somebody accurately portrays them. These definition of character lawsuits are what's really gumming up the litigation works in our country.

17. That's not true, they signed the release BEFORE
the cameras even showed up. I read an article about how the producers dealt with that aspect of the filming. Everyone who appears in the film who is not an actor (there are only four actors) signed releases AHEAD of time, before even the first second of filming. And not right before but way before.

They wanted to be in a movie. They spouted their racist shit. The movie is now all over. Too bad, racist assholes. You lost.

25. No, they don't, because they signed the releases
BEFORE the filmmakers even turned on a single camera. Before they started drinking. Everyone who appeared in the movie did so. In fact, the rodeo guy? He signed the release days before, because they arranged for Borat (SBC) to sing the anthem there, so they mailed the release papers to him and he sent them back.

The filmmakers were smarter than to allow someone to sign a release while drunk.

27. They were likely already intoxicated...
All the frat guys I knew in school pretty much stayed that way... ;)

Seriously, though, I didn't read the full article, just the snippet provided above. If they signed it sober, those bigots need to get the hell over it. Alcohol may make you behave in ways you otherwise wouldn't, but it doesn't make you believe things you otherwise wouldn't......

26. Check out post #17 - it sure sounds like all releases were signed well
before any filming actually took place, so they certainly were consenting to the fact that all subsequent actions on their part could and would be filmed, and hypotheically end up in the movie.
