In fact, call it the "Truman Committee". The Republicans like to refer to Truman and claim him, falsely, as one of their own, so let's have an investigative committee on war profiteering, just like he did.
Chairman of the committee should be Jack Reed of Rhode Island, a former Navy Seal. Of course Webb, Kerry, Murtha and Durbin should be members. If the Repubs place Warner (Va.), McCain, and Hagle, the Bush Administration better watch out.
This committee would be able to look into all the waste in Iraq spending. Look into the outright payoffs of American and Iraqi companies who failed to perform their work. Place Halliburton and thus Cheney on the griddle. KBR and their short-changing the troops can be investigated. Contract interrogators with no military oversight will come out. Corruption by Iraqis like Chalabi could be exposed. Lack of equipment and body armor could come under scrutiny. Exorbitant salaries of logistical advisers for private contractors could be compared to our brave young men and women serving in Iraq.
All this would not look like a witch-hunt, because we would be exposing greedy, corrupt, scumbags inside and outside the administration, that have added extra risks to our service personnel and extra costs to the taxpayers.
This committee could become the most powerful on the hill and make Bush and his cronies shit green beans, all the while proving to the American people that the Democrats are truly the party who can best support our troops.
