EXIT POLL RESULTS (theoretically) locked for 4.5 more hours EAST coast time.
Looks like the floodgates open at 5:00. Interesting story on MSM's attempt to control flow of information. Can anyone keep a secret???

Seems DU's bloggers well positioned to get accurate information. Good idea (to the moderators) to have the results threads positioned up top. Thanks.

1. the way it is supposed to work
Noone will get the info before 5 pm .

But... if they are conducting exit polls and feeding them to the networks, the persons doing the exit polls will have pretty good idea of how things are going, won't they?

3. Yeah, but then the networks get to "see" the results first....
This creates a very uncomfortable situation. Where are the checks and balances? How do we know the networks will report the exit polls accurately?

After al the Corporate Media propaganda designed to boost and support the Bushistas (from ABC's "Myth to 9/11: the Official True Story" to the AP and FOX "mis"-identifying Foley and Hastert as "D"), how can we believe what is reported?

4. They should not be leaked early in the day. That is the law. Let's see
if Drudge can get around that.

In Canada exit polls are illegal to publish until each poll is closed. Cause you don't want exit polls to influence people staying home (if they are harried, looking for a babysitter and their candidate has alreadys won). Everyone is supposed to vote so that is why you keep exit polls on the low down till as late as possible. Let's hope Drudge doesn't get them early (or some phoney version of them). We want every democrat out to vote. Every single one. Some of these races are actually close.

But there will not be any official exit polls on House races. Only Governorial and Senate races.

Not to be an annoying spud or anything, but we're not on dog time here in California.

Don't sweat the small stuff.

When the sun sets on the west coast, the news is gonna be good in all time zones!

6. In 2002 they chucked the lot of them because of "discrepancies"
Edited on Tue Nov-07-06 01:04 PM by The Count
I learned from pollsters - before 2000 even - that exit polls are the only accurate ones - because regular polls are on some future decision, while these are on actual actions. So, samples - like all polls - but the real good samples! Any discrepancies with the final results - I believe the exit polls. Ever since Florida 2000.

8. Don't they have to wait until the polls close in the west?
I thought that exit polls results can not be released until the polls close out here.

9. Only in a national race.
These are individual contests. So, when all of PA's polls close, the Santorum-Casey exit polling can be released.

10. Oh good!
I'd go nuts if I had to wait until 8pm PST.
