2. Call Dorgan --- He might be persuaded
Dorgan has usually been on our side, and often has been in front of otehr Dems on issues like trade and media consolidation. His apparent decision to support Alito is baffling and diappointing to me.

I called his office to urge him to change his mind. You should too. He seems like one who could be persuaded.

3. Religious TV ad campaign
I'm on a Montana email list and that's what they put out yesterday, that there are huge ad campaigns in red staes labeling the Alito vote as a vote with the "Kennedy - Kerry liberals". We simply have to go straight at those states FIRST, in the future.

5. It is a small media market so they get the big bang for small bucks.

Ever mindful of maximizing their investment. Do you think we're better off calling their DC offices or their local offices, or both? The thought of this joker still on the bench when I am in my grave is just too much to take. It's like leaving yet another boobie prize for your kids.

edit to make title make more sense

6. Both, for sure
A couple of weeks ago, that's what a converted Repub said they do. They call every single office in their state, plus DC. That makes ONE caller look like 5. They also do handwritten letters, emails and private faxes. Apparently, some churches have instructed them on this sort of thing. You can bet rigid authoritarians are highly organized.

7. I understand handwritten letters are the coin of the realm
mine are close to illegible, I guess I could print them (manually with pen & paper, not with a computer), but private fax machines, hadn't thought of that one. A new project!

9. $30 Brother
It faxes and copies. I don't need one often, but it had gotten to the point of being annoying when I had to go find one somewhere. Has also proven useful for just this purpose. Although I use the online faxes too. I think it is quite powerful when a group like PFAW generates 250,000 faxes.

12. They want to be re-elected
Notice that most of the Democrats defecting on this issue--The North Dakota guys, Tim Johson in South Dakota, Ben Nelson in Nebraska--are in the anti-abortion Upper Midwest heartland.

10. I've lived in red states
The people have been bamboozled, most don't support this right wing insanity at all. Most support a measured approach to abortion, guns, govt power, etc. Remember, the Freemen, Waco & Ruby Ridge were groups of right wingers fighting federal powers.

11. Byron Dorgan and Kent Conrad are two of our best
And they're both fighters. I've seen each of these guys get out front and take it to them. Conrad never stops with his uncovering their economic dishonesty and looting with big charts and clear words. The media at his presentations always snipe at him over bullshit but he stays strong. Dorgan is so right on so many issues that you can count on him to always be on the right side.

I think these two guys will come around, if this isn't already a political drama game. It sure doesn't sound decided to me: "... indications suggest" that Conrad and Dorgan are "unlikely to support" a filibuster.

I'm hoping that Democrats are playing a weekend game of keep them guessing before they come out and shut Alito down in full force next week.
