Just got off the phone with Ed Patru, the deputy Director of Communications for the RNCC. I told him my elderly mother was recovering from the death of my father and getting these calls, and I told him he should be ashamed of himself.

He said that he had “no knowledge” of any middle of the night calls, and as far as he knew they were only happening between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. He got very sniffy with me, asking why would I accuse him of making middle of the night calls. “What possible good would that do our candidates?” he said.

I told him he was being disingenuous - that the calls sounded as if they were from Democratic campaigns and that the point was to get people angry at the Democrats. He said he “wasn’t aware” of any information like that.

I said that information was all over today. “You mean blogs?” he said, with barely contained disdain.

“The Philadelphia Daily News had a story about it yesterday,” I said. He said he saw that, but had no information it was a problem.

“Then Ed, I’d like you to give me your email address, and I will send you the several dozen accounts I’m aware of,” I said. He gave me his address.

So if you’re getting these calls, send the details to [e-mail]. I’m sure he’ll be happy to hear from you.

The letter states: "The NRCC calls do no identify at the outset, and as required, that they are sponsored by the NRCC. These calls do no contain a telephone number. This failure to comply with the law denies callers effective sponsorship information. Without the benefit of a number, they are also unable to request that they not be called again. And we have received reports that individuals have been contacted multiple times by your prerecorded calls, despite their continued refusal to accept the calls."

The RNCC (really notice complete corruption) response is a howler.

I got them four years ago. This year, I've gotten a few legit robocalls, one from Democrat Paul Aronsohn, another from former NJ Gov. Richard Codey (urging me to vote for Menendez), and -- urghh -- one from Joe Piscopo, a "Democrat who'll be voting for Thomas Kean Jr."

It seems odd; everyone else I know has had real people talk to them. People on both sides.
