I just got off the phone with the New York State head of the DNC's official lawyers committee.

She has local and national reporters who are EAGER to speak to voters who have been harassed by repetitive robocalls. We need to put some meat on the bones of this story.

If you have been called repeatedly please contact me. If you have recorded these calls even better because then it might be covered by the TV media, not just the print media. They want to speak to New York State voters only for this story.

I am the conduit for this. My email is d7eb at aol.com

Someone has a Washington Post reporter interested so I got his permission to post his email in an update. He is interested in folks who have been robocalled anywhere in the US. Recorded would be best. Here's that contact info dns361 at cox.net

He robo-called supporting the anti-gay marriage bill in South Carolina. He is aligned with the BoJos (Bob Jonesers) and Fundies.

7. I have FIVE robo calls saved on my machine
Edited on Mon Nov-06-06 03:59 PM by mtnester
and yes, we ARE on the National Do Not Call list

More than one of them is from DeWine's camp

ALL of them came in today, specifically, 4 of them early, and one more less than a half hour ago.

Sigh..I wish they were interested in Ohio

9. I don't think political calls are considered solicitation so the DoNotCall list
doesn't apply. At least thats what they told us when we were calling for our county Dems here.

There is, of course, a point at which it becomes harassment. Don't know how that works though.

10. Robo calls are
voice calls from a real person for political reasons fall under allowable.

Robo or "recorded" calls do not

My point is also, I have FIVE now...it is not even DINNERTIME

Betcha a gazzillion dollars I get at least 10 more tonight...either robo or real person....maybe more.

It is not real fun to live in Ohio right now...and tomorrow I will watch voter suppression at its highest all day.

11. It's a federal exemption. But the state's law against even poltiical
calls trumps the federal exemption, so they have been told to stop in Ohio.

8. LOL. I just hung up on Bill Clinton!
Really, I am getting calls from live volunteers for the Democrats and before they start their spiel I say: yes, yes, both of us are going to vote for all the Democratic candidates.

Since they do have my name as a Democrat supporter, why call me?

13. I got a call a few weeks ago regarding our local Democratic candidate,
John Hall, and I said, "You have three registered voters here, all voting for Hall, go call someone else! Good luck!"

19. Encouraging you to cast a ballot. We don't want people sitting home. Annoying if you're
committed (?), yeah, but we need all hands on deck for this one, especially in the close races. I take it with a grain of salt.

14. I thought it was the Repugs robo-calling with Demo. messages to annoy people...
Edited on Mon Nov-06-06 04:27 PM by gauguin57
... and get them to be pissed at the democrats and not vote for democrats.

Republicans, using messages about the Democrats on their robo-calls, and calling so many times that people get infuriated with the Democrats and stay away from the polls or vote repug.

That's what I thought the real story was here.

And p.s. ... I've been making GOTV phone calls (and calls to find pollwatchers) for days, so I haven't gotten a single political call in days. My phone has been busy busy busy ... now THAT's how you avoid getting political calls ... tie up your own phone getting other Dems out to vote!!!

15. That IS What It IS!! I Was Making Calls Up Until Last Saturday
and I can tell you it was "hard work" and not very gratifying! People telling me off or slamming phones down.

Starts out like the Democratic candidate talking, then disses the Democratic candidate and ends up with the Repukes giving his name and saying HE APPROVES THE MESSAGE!!

Dirty Pool!!

21. Question about a RoboCall
I received a RoboCall from Cathy McMorris (R-WA-05)yesterday. For starters, I have caller ID and rather than having the source of the call clearly identified (such as 'Victory WA 06', which is what Democratic calls read), her call said 'Out of Area'. I think by law she is required to be clearly identified when she calls.

Well, I decided to let the call finish, then leave the phone off the hook for a good long while. I imagined that I was tying up their RoboLine, preventing them from making additional calls until I hung up?

Is that how it works? Would this be a viable tactic?

22. Probably not.
Telephony has a short 'timeout' feature which breaks the connection forcibly when one side of the connection hangs up but the other doesn't. This is why you don't hang up on someone if you just tap the hook briefly, but if you hold it down longer you will get a dial tone back.

And I am certain that they have many 'bots' running this way, so even though you may briefly tie up the line, you're really not stopping anything from happening.

23. Breaking: Jim Webb Campaign files complaint with DOJ
This is very serious and complaints have come about robo-calls telling people their voting place has changed, telling people that if they registered in another state they will be arrested, and Fliers being passed out. This is again very serious. Wide spread PROOF of voter suppression in action.

The repukes have no other option than to create even more crimes to avoid being held accountable for culture of massive corruption.

24. If Democrats take at least one house of Congress
GOP dirty election tricks should be the A #1 first prime immediate thing to be investigated. No wimpy talk about healing divides from the Dems will be acceptable. Election theft must be exposed and stopped.
