Kerry should apologize,
Edited on Tue Oct-31-06 10:29 PM by kster
he should call a press conference, say he wants to make an apology to the soldiers and their families, Then when he has the attention of the CM, in front of all the cameras, Apologize to the troops and their families for believing and taking the word of the * admin, and that after finding out, that the war was based on a LIE, that he (Kerry) will fight the * Admin to get our soldiers out of harms way. :sarcasm:

3. Never apologize.
THis wasn't about the soldiers. This was about Bush not doing his homework on Iraq and ending up getting stuck there because if it.
Never apologize for something you didn't do. Kerry did not insult the troops. To apologize would be admitting that that was indeed what he did.

If anyone should be apologizing, it should be Bush for getting us into this mess in the first place.

6. No, he shouldn't apologize for his remarks
As the OP says, he should apologize for going along with the IWR.

23. Okay. This is something that I can address.
I got totally frustrated with the 2004 Kerry presidential campaign for not being clear on this, but, as Randi Rhodes said, he was beset by "handlers," who did not do right by him.:-(

John Kerry did not vote for the war. The entire "flip-flopping" accusation was bogus, but was never sufficiently addressed during or after his campaign. What John Kerry voted for was to give the president the authority to use force against Iraq, so he could bring it to the U.N., so they would bring the inspectors back in, and, thus, avoid a war and keep the peace. That was Bush*'s message, at the time, the one we all kept hearing.x(

Bush* obviously lied to Congress, to the American people, and to the world. But John Kerry voted his conscience and in good faith. The fact that he then voted against the $87 billion meant that he really was against the war, as he had been, all along. He just made the mistake of initially believing the words of this lying administration. He's no longer doing that and is still being criticized.:grr:

28. I understand that
And the vote for "authorization" was just that - a vote for a possibility of a deadly strike. When all means of settling the matter peacefully had evaporated.

And, as we're finding out today (with even MORE evidence), the "diplomatic solution" was an utter fraud.

32. We all know that now and I certainly never expected that a war would result over so little.
I don't think that anyone did. But we all know now that Bush* lied, that his plans were made, and that he somehow coerced Colin Powell, the only one of his administration who was holding out for diplomacy, to go before the U.N. with forged evidence. People believed him. He was trustworthy. I admit it, even I did. But Colin Powell, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs, and the only one in this administration who had ever served, was totally overruled.:grr:

11. no way when a person says the truth they should stick by it.
remember when Dick Durbin told the truth about torture or Abu Ghraib and they told him to apologize, and he kissed their asses. What is all this apologizing shit, how about the repigs apologizing for killing our sons/daughters/fathers/mothers, and innocent civilians when will they apologize for thrusting us in a unjust war. We know they never will, they are too cowardly.

Why in the hell are people holding these men and women up as "heroes" that deserve our undying, mindless, blind, ignorant support just by virtue of being soldiers?! That is crap and I'm sick of hearing it. Let's face it, the majority of them ARE there because they are not educated and the military was a way for them to make enough money to support their families, go to school (if they live), get training, etc. The Repukes are making damn sure that they have a steady stream of undereducated and disadvantaged citizens to keep replacing the bodies in this fuck up of a war by way economic and social oppression.

20. John Kerry made a brilliant speech today, explaining exactly what he meant,
who he was criticizing (those in this administration who never served, but are putting our troops in harm's way without proper tools and no plan...), and that he will refuse to allow his remarks to be misinterpreted, anymore. John Kerry would never criticize the troops, since he was one of them, has spoken out for them throughout his long career. Guess the MSM missed the second speech, the one that I caught, which I thought was inspiring. We need more of our senators to speak out as he has, in defense of those who we're sending to war. John Murtha and Max Cleland know, as does John Kerry. Bush*, Cheney and Rumsfeld do not. :-(

but only to fool the media into believing that he is going to apologize for what he said, then when Kerry gets the media attention, He only apologizes for believing *'s lies about the reasons for going to war.

I agree Kerry has nothing to apologize for with what he said.

31. You're the OP, LOL. And I did read the entire thread, including your adding the *sarcasm* emoticon.
And I entirely agree, that the more media attention that Kerry gets to spread his message, the better. But what I heard on the numerous news shows, tonight, was just, unfortunately, a debate over whether Kerry should apologize, or not. They totally failed to address his subsequent and very strong speech, which I heard on Randi Rhodes. :-(

But you've got to admit that this is a much more successful thread than most. It not only didn't sink like a stone, but really took off, and prompted some pretty useful discussion. Kerry was often misunderstood during the 2004 campaign, the machinations of the Bush* handlers, but it's obvious that most people here understand what he's about and that his recent remarks were completely misinterpreted by the MSM. :-(

Good thread! K&R!:kick:

He has good reasons for his votes usually. And what stuck during the 2004 election will be hard to unstuck.

"Mr. Bush, I was not speaking of the brave men and women who are serving our country in uniform, and with whom I am proud to have served (an opportunity which you yourself sadly missed), but rather my remarks were directed at you.
"Once you apologize to the nearly 3,000 American families who have lost loved ones because their commander in chief was mistaken in believing that Iraq had weapons of Mass destruction, that we could bring democracy to Iraq by military force, and that the Iraquis were sponsors of international terrorism, AND...
"Once you apologize to America's children and grandchildren for the enormous debt which they will pay so that your corporate friends can make record profits this year, thus diminishing their own economic prospects life, AND....
"Once you apologize to the residents of New Orleans for not having funded the construction which could have averted the destruction of their beloved city, and for not having competent people in federal emergency management, and for not responding to warnings about the destructive force of the impeding Katrina, and for not mobilizing the entire resources of the federal government once the destruction was clear, AND...
"Once you apologize to every American for not having read your August 6 2001 presidential briefing "bin Laden Determined to strike in America", nor having given credence to warnings of Clinton administration figures that bin Laden should be a top priority, and for not having acted on the Hart-Rudman report on airline safety, AND...
"Once you apologize to each and every citizen of this country, past, present AND future, for having defiled, corroded and corrupted our beloved constitution, then and only then will I
APOLOGIZE TO YOU. To our troops, who are serving ably and with honor, I am proud of you and hope that you soon will have the leadership which you deserve."

what a great way to hand this election over to the Republicans, even that would be enough to convince me to stop voting!!

sorry, if a Vietnam vet isn't qualified to tell our children of the dangers of serving in uniform..then who is? telling someone to make something of themselves in order to avoid being used isn't insulting, its just honest and courageous. Apologizing would only make it cowardly and dishonest!
