Did you know -- Sequoia ASKED TO BE INVESTIGATED!
Edited on Mon Oct-30-06 09:59 AM by Atman
Shout this one far and wide. This bullshit meme that Sequoia is "being investigated" for ties to Chavez is total, absolute bullshit. At least, the way it is being framed by the GOP to scare the ignorant masses. Apparently, according to the wire service story in the Hartford Courant, the CEO himself asked the government to open a probe into the company as a way to disprove the republican lies about their ties to Chavez.

This story is a totally fictionalized crock of shit being played by the GOP. There was nothing to investigate until Sequoia opened its books and said, "COME ON IN! See for yourself!" I hate these fucking fuckers. The GOP is as evil as evil gets.

======

WASHINGTON -- A U.S. manufacturer of touch-screen voting machines confirmed Sunday it was being investigated by the federal government for alleged ties to Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez but flatly denied any connection.

Sequoia Voting Systems Inc., based in Oakland, Calif., said the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, or CFIUS, was conducting the formal inquiry into Sequoia as well as its parent software company, the Smartmatic Corp., at the firms' request after news articles suggested improper ties.

That doesn't really change anything
That is still basically what this article says. Questions arose over ties to Chavez which Sequoia denied. When the rumors/accusations persisted, Sequoia invited investigators in as a way to clear their name. Six of one, half dozen of the other, the fact remains that we are only being told HALF the story by the Cabal News Networks. The bad, scary, negative half with little or truth attached to it.

5. Sorry but the Smartmatic claim is total vendor BS.
Rep. Maloney demanded a CFIUS investigation back in late May/early June right after the Dubai ports brouhaha. That's why it couldn't be ignored as easily as it normally would have been. The investigation was initiated then and has, apparently recently escalated based on evidence in the first round. Whether or not the Venezuela government has any ownership interest in the company (which they probably do NOT) the whole business of an American voting machine company being owned by a series of opaque offshore holding companies for a consortium of foreign investors is highly objectionable. Could the GOP sieze on this if it's to their advantage? Sure. Is it a planned setup? No, it's not.

6. I'm not sure what you're saying
Edited on Mon Oct-30-06 10:28 AM by Atman
Are you saying the news article is WRONG?

I do agree that having ANY voting machine company owned by ANY secretive company or group of companies is absolutely unacceptable. Could you please supply some background to your claim that the investigation has been ongoing since June and recently escalated based upon evidence? I've heard nothing of it at all. Thanks!

EDIT: Sorry, never mind. Link is in the first reply. So what's up with this wire service story, do you suppose?
