Endless War

I made this sign out of a mattress box. It measured about seven-by fifteen feet and was visible to all lanes of traffic on the 580 by the Richmond/San Rafael bridge. The sign took less than an hour to make and cost about fifty cents in materials. Using a hammer and nails it took less than a minute to post and stayed up for two days.

8. Are You Sure That's A Mobius Strip?
The image does get across the idea of "Endless War," but I think it's not actually a Mobius strip, which has a half-twist in it. This defines a Mobius strip, which is a paradoxically one-sided, one-dimensional figure. Try running an imaginary finger along one without lifting & you'll see what I mean: the half-twist causes a funny little dimensional flip. Try running the same finger along the yellow ribbon shown — no twist = two sides.

See http://snipurl.com/10oz4 for a classic Mobius strip by M.C. Escher, or Google 'Mobius strip."

Always been a fun Impossible Figure. 'Scuse me, I'm going to go have a drink from my Klein bottle now.

10. One-Sided, One-Dimensional
Are two of the characteristic of a Mobius strip, & are also characteristics of American foreign policy. Go figure! These Mobius strips sure are something! Darn good eatin', too.

13. It's the symbol for infinity
which probably is recognizable to more people anyway.

Go FWB!

14. Oh, No One Mentioned "Fault"
Just wanted to call the thing by its right name. I thought it did fine as a symbol of endless war even before BrewerJohn mentioned it's a symbol of Infinity, too, which just serves to make it ever so much more so.
