Anyone else see the Corker v Ford debate tonight?
I was really disappointed in the format. It essentially allowed Corker to get away with just reciting his memorized responses. It's so obvious that Ford is more intlligent and competent than Corker but the debate format simply didn't give him the opportunity to show it. Ford really needed to clearly beat Corker tonight, too.

This one is neck and neck in the polls and unless either candidate has a trump card up their sleeve, it's going to depend on GOTV. The early voting turnout seems encouraging, though.

1. Early Vote Turnout is very high, but don't know if it's Dems or GOP

12. It might just be a reflection of early voting becoming a more popular alternative
It makes sense, because you might not be able to take time off work to stand in line on election day but you might have another day where you can take your form in.

3. can you describe it a bit more ?
what was the format like ? i notice Republicans seem to depend on certain debate formats in order to get away with crap or not show their weaknesses.

in California it was Arnold wanting a sit down debate because Angelides is taller than him.

i didn't see the debate, i would like to. but not sure iw ant to anymore based on your post. i will probably just get angry and frustrated and i'm already feeling that way.

i saw Ford and Corker on CNN last week and Corker just sucks. as you say he repeats some shit that has nothing to do with the issues. Harold Ford is clearly more intelligent and has more knowledge of issues.

4. It was like a town hall format
where members from the audience asked questions for the candidates and they had a minute or two to answer and rebute. (i.e. 2nd 04 Presidential Debate).

Hope that helps.

6. Basically, Ford didn't kick Corker's ass and that's what he needed to do
I think that Ford won the debate, but he didn't really damage Corker in any way whatsoever. Corker did perfectly fine with his prepared statements and didn't slip up or anything. Basically, there were lower expectations for Corker and he had no trouble meeting them.

Also, Corker seemed extremely laid back whereas Ford was a bit tense at least in the beginning. I was expecting Ford to be a lot more comfortable given his 10 years of political experience.

7. I saw the tail end on CSPAN about the dirty trick commercials....
Ford needed to lay into Corker as a slime ball for saying he wanted that Playboy ad pulled, when in fact we all know he said it with a wink and with his fingers crossed.

I also thought in his closing comments, he needed to attack Corker more, instead of telling everyone how close he is to God. That's fine and all, and maybe it plays okay in Tennessee, but I thought it ate away his time.

You saw more of it than me, but Ford seemed nervous, and a little more timid than I would have liked him to have been.

11. Ford did seem nervous and Corker seemed more relaxed
That bothered me considering that Ford has 10 years of political experience. I have a feeling that Corker had better prep than Ford did.

9. They should have given out Sominex for that debate.
Ford did the best he could with that lame format.

It couldn't have been more dry. Like something the Quakers would have organized. No candidate questioning, ran it like a military school, no opportunity for real exchange. And I'm getting really fed up with that little C-Span shrunken window.

What the hell is with that? Why can't they zoom that into full screen. It's like watching a postage stamp.
