Words fail me.
Tesco condemned for selling pole dancing

Tesco has been forced to remove a pole-dancing kit from the toys and games section of its website after it was accused of "destroying children's innocence".

The Tesco Direct site advertises the kit with the words, "Unleash the sex kitten inside...simply extend the Peekaboo pole inside the tube, slip on the sexy tunes and away you go!

"Soon you'll be flaunting it to the world and earning a fortune in Peekaboo Dance Dollars".

The £49.97 kit comprises a chrome pole extendible to 8ft 6ins, a 'sexy dance garter' and a DVD demonstrating suggestive dance moves.

1. Holy crap. This is almost as bad as thongs for kids. Then again
Edited on Thu Oct-26-06 08:59 PM by AIJ Alom
when kids become teenagers they can take up pole-dancing as exercise. Yet another nightmare in marketing and exploitation gone too far. I expect a gift like this in Spencers for adults 18 and older, not in a children's section. The store should also be held accountable.

7. Some kinky married ladies are having poles
installed in the boudoir.

To each her own, I guess.

Pushing this at kids is grotesque, though.

I wish Britney Spears would RETIRE, already. She's done enough damage.

8. And of course Britney supports none other than "our great leader".
But I can't blame Ms. Spears alone. You listen to the music these kids listen to on top 40 and the lyrics the sing along to and you ask them about it and they think it's all good fun. I run a store and on several occasions I have told young boys to keep their hands to themselves and have explained sexual harassment and it's consequences. It's a sad world, but I'm going to help as many people as I can.

3. Bizarre
We sexualize our children and then are surprised when they have sex, get pregnant at age 12.

I can't imagine how difficult it must be to raise sane children these days with all the mixed messages they get - on one side marketing and the media that push sexually explicit anything to kids if it sells. Then there are the moralizers who insist on no sex-ed or birth control information.

I have no word or solutions for any of this. Common sense seems to have escaped everyone.
